A special thanks to Vantaggio Fitness & Nutrition of Chattanooga, TN who handed out over $2,000 in prizes. This is one of the oldest MTB trails in the S.E. U.S. and was built and is maintained by the Ellijay Mtn Bike Assoc. and SORBA and has been having access problems. The Hikers and Forrest Watch (Ga version of the Sierra club) have been trying to make this trail closed to bikes and thought they had succeeded by getting the Pinhoti 1.1mi connector from Bear Creek to Mtntown designated hiker only and the original terminus has also been closed due to a gated developement. The attached is a proposal letter from the National Forrest Service Larry Thomas proposing to change the Pinhoti section to multiuse in accordance with the rest of the 100mi Pinhoti trail system and that would provide a way off Mtntown trail and back to the Bear Creek/ Gates Chapel Rd parking area. Please read the attached let ter from Larry and drop him a simple e-mail s upporting proposals 1-4. Please pass this on to all in the Mtn Biking community. 2008 Cannondale Georgia State Championship series (GSC) #5 - Ridgeway Park / Carter's Lake / Ellijay, GA 6-8-08: Well it was not muddy, that was for sure, a little hot, a little dry, a little Cater's Lake (aka, tough) but overall great conditions for the 3rd annual and 5th stop of the GSC series. The local Ellijay Mountain Bike Association had lot's of volunteers on hand and the EMBA trail crew had the course in great shape. Congratulations to Peter Joski who won the pro / expert mens class and to Natasha Cowie who rode off with the top women's honors in the expert category. ------------------------------------------------- A message from Van
Council: Tiago
de Paula Recovery Fund Tiago
de Paula, a local and national Category 1 racer and member of the Aero Cat
/ Latino Professional Cycling Team, was severely injured around 5pm on May
22nd, 2008, when a car abruptly turned in front of him while he was
traveling at a high
rate of
speed in his warm-up for the opening time trial of the Tour of Atlanta in
Buford, GA. Tiago was air-evac'd to Atlanta Medical Center.
In
the collision, Tiago sustained multiple facial fractures and is
currently in the Intensive Care Unit awaiting the first of several
facial reconstructive surgeries. Several of his friends and members
of the cycling community are working to raise money to aid his recovery
and payment of what will be very significant medical expenses. His
cycling team has set up a Riders Recovery Fund to benefit Tiago. The
fund is blanketed under non-profit status and all donations will be
eligible for a tax deduction. ------------------------------------------------- A message from Andy Johnston: 2008 MTB Training Camp Brevard, NC June 29-July 4th. -------------------------------------------------
2008 Cannondale Georgia State Championship series (GSC) #4 / SPECIALIZED BICYCLES South Eastern Regional Championship series (SERC) #5 / AMBC - Heritage Park / Farmington, GA 5-25-08: Just like clockwork rain fell on the course on Friday and by race time the course was in prime condition. The course was set up a little different this year and a little longer as well and with the hills and technical features combined to make this one of the toughest trails so far in either series. Many thanks to all of the sponsors, the park management and special thanks to the Sorba Athens club, as they had the course in tip top shape and provided plenty of volunteers to help with the event. Sam Koerber won a close race in the Men's pro class and Kim Flynn top the honors in the Women's expert pro field. ------------------------------------------------- Tornado damage at Arrowhead park in Macon, GA: As most have heard the Arrowhead trails took a direct hit from a tornado over Mother's day weekend, the damage is substantial as can be seen from the photos that Mark Dufus has provided below... http://www.flickr.com/photos/37795592@N00/sets/72157605122070308/ If you would like further information the about the club that built and maintains the trails click here; http://www.sorbaomba.org/ -------------------------------------------------
The Kona 12 Hours of Tsali 5-17-08: Another great time at the famous Tsali trails as riders from all over the Southeast converged on this very popular trail system to compete in this fourth annual affair. Many thanks to all of the sponsors and riders and especially to Kona bicycles and Black Dog bikes for providing most of swag that went to the athletes. Congratulations to the top team KHS / Kenda as they successfully defended their title from last year and to the top male & female 6 hour racers, respectively, Alex Hawkins & Linda Demma. Announcement from Carlos Galvis:. Quite Waters park
(located in Deerfield Beach, Florida) was hit hard by a hurricane a
couple of years ago and is now open for riding. There are still trails
to be built but right now we have a decent 3.75 mile loop. It's a fun,
fast, flow course.
The volunteers have done a
great job with the terrain they have to work with. Single track
trails that skirt along the edges of lakes and winding connector
trails. There are alot of small rocks and sand - welcome to FL! The
trail is fast flowing with some cool ledges and technical
challenges. The lack of any significant elevation is the only limit
this trail has. Its a fun XC ride.
Thanks
Carlos G..........

SPECIALIZED BICYCLES South Eastern Regional Championship series (SERC) #4 / AMBC - Tanasi Trails / Ducktown, TN 5-4-08: Picture perfect was the only way to describe the conditions at the Ducktown round of the SERC series. A special thanks to Trailhead Bicycle Company of Cleveland, TN who handed out over $2,000 in prizes. Congratulations to Pro men's Matt Hadley and to Women's pro/expert Jamie Dinkins on their impressive wins! On another note a very kind gift was presented to us at the Ducktown event by some of the racers, it was a donation to help cover some of the costs of our troubled journey from Florida to the Ft. Yargo, GA event last week (we had a fairly major vehicle breakdown on the way to the race). All of this was organized and contributed to without our knowledge and It certainly took us by surprise! The very thought that someone would even think of this is overwhelming. We are at this point not sure how best to use the funds but we would like to thank everyone that had anything to do with this extension of grace towards our family. -------------------------------------------------
2008 XTERRA Ft Yargo Off-Road Triathlon - Ft Yargo State Park / Winder, GA 4-26-08: Perfect conditions for the second XTERRA to be held at this beautiful park and trail system. Many thanks to all of the sponsors, the park management, the Jacksonville, Florida Xterra water safety crew and special thanks to the Yargo Area Bike Association (YABA), as they had the course in tip top shape. Craig Evans and Erin Kummer (seen in the picture above) were the top athletes on the day. ------------------------------------------------- A friend in need - Rick Harman Fund: Rick is a fellow rider and racer whom was recently diagnosed with cancer.
