Battle of Snow Hill moves out

2017 Battle of Snow HIll - FLE #5 - 5-7-17- Snow Hill Trails - Geneva, Fl

Last year this event was held in February and on that day it almost lived up to it's name as it was super cold and although there was no snow if felt like it. This year was a much different story as the event was moved to May and as we all know May can be a gamble with the weather in Florida, well the gamble paid off as after a long drought and series of hot days, a rain and a cool front came just in time and made the conditions near perfect for this second annual race near Orlando.

The race was both a 3 hour and a 6 hour event with both groups starting at 9am in a mass start, the riders hit the 8 mile loop at speed and it was Mose Howard leading as they completed the first lap. The Sorba Orlando club had spent many hours prepping the trail system including two special built bridges (thanks to the Boy Scouts), many thanks to all involved!  Also thanks to all of the area bicycle shops that helped support the event and brought out their team riders to attend the race.

The winners of the 3 hour classes were Mose Howard and Alaina Casioppo, in the 6 Hour solo classes it was Sam Joeckel (9 laps) with the men's win while Jo Miner won the women's solo class, in the team competition it was Andrew Hilling and Andrew Russell (also 9 laps) taking the top spot.

Roger Sutton takes the 10K win at Bridge Too Far run

2017 Bridge Too Far off road run - Greenway Trails - Ocala, Fl

Awesome weather at the 4th annual BTF run, the race started at the Fl Greenway Landbridge trailhead and routed West on the hiking trails, the 5K turned just before the I-75 landbridge and came back but the 10K continued on across the bridge adding another senic section of single track and then a long run on the limerock road coming back.  Definately one of the most interesting runs in the area.

Roger Sutton was the top 10K male while Tiffany Sarduy won the female 10K, in the 5K it was John Murray with the overall male fastest time and Tori Lawson was a close second overall and top female 5K runner.  Congrats to all finishers.

Leonardo Citi on his way to a win at Ft Yargo

2017 Specialized South Eastern Regional Championship series #4 / Georgia State Championship series #3 / Ft Yargo Trails - Winder, GA

Hate to jinx ourselves but the weather and course conditions have been awesome so far this season and Ft Yargo was no exception.  The Yargo Trail Crew had the course rocking and rolling for the whole weekend and also managed all of the course volunteers, many many thanks!  Also would like to thank all of the sponsors and especially Atlanta Cycling for stepping up and providing the prizes for the event.

On Saturday the SERC series Time Trial bonus took place at 3pm and it was Ryan Woodall logging the fastest time and Josselynn Guiterrez claimed the top female rank.  Sunday the temperatures were mild and although clouds covered the skies, there was no rain only great race conditions.  Ryan Woodall made it a double by also winning the cross country pro class over series leader Dustin Greer and Madison McDaniel took control of the women's top class with her second win of the series.

Andre Wedderburn gives it a thumbs up at Lakeland FSC

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #7 - 11-12/13-16 - Loyce Harpe Park Trails - Lakeland, Fl

Another great weekend of weather for the Lakeland round of the FSC series sponsored by Bent's Cycling & Fitness!  It was also another double header as the short track bonus race on Saturday saw 100 racers hit the special 1 mile short loop for valuable bonus points in the series.  The yellow wave short track race was the biggest of the day with right around 60 riders doing 15 minutes plus one lap on the fast course that included a short bit of paved road as well, in a very close finish it was Allison Anjos taking the win.  The white wave short track start saw about 35 racers hit the same course but this time for only 10 minutes plus one lap and this time it was Carlos Pacheco with the claim to the wave win and maximum bonus points.

Sundays cross country race started off with of course the kids race at 8:30am and they ran the same course as the previous days short track then at 9:30am the yellow wave advanced riders hit the big course which measured 6.5 miles and featured some tricky sections including one called "Sneaky Snake" a trail we had never used before in an FSC race.  The course produced some close racing as we have come to expect in this years series and it was Allison Anjos taking his second overall Elite win in the Men's class while Madison McDaniel returned to the series and chalked up another.  Bob McCarty has a strong lead in the chase for the men's Elite jersey while on the women's side we have a new jersey holder in Simone Berger.

The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Tim Zimmerman in the 40-49 expert class.

Many thanks to all of the fine sponsors especially Bent's Cycling & Fitness of Lakeland and by the way Team Bent's Galacticus is still leading the team championship standings!

15 year old Reed Legg takes the overall at Tsali

2017 Xterra Tsali - 6-25-17- Tsali Trails - Bryson City, NC

There was a jump in attendance this year no thanks to the weather forecast as triathletes from all over the South East came to take on Fontana lake and the surrounding trails at Tsali. The weather it turns out was near perfect for the event, no rain, 70 degrees at the start of the event and water temperature was a mild 79 degrees. The Tsali Xterra has always run a slightly different format due to the trail layout on the property, so instead of swim, bike, run, the athletes swim the 1/2 mile swim then hit the trails running immediately afterward taking on a steep uphill quarter mile climb to the top of the right loop for 4.5 miles, then they jump on the mountain bikes and pump out 11 miles of rolling and scenic terrain all the way to the finish.

This year the overall race was won by Tampa Bay Florida's up and comer 15 year old Reed Legg (his brother Braxton finished 7th and is only 12 years old). Marcus Barton (the winner of the Ft Yargo Xterra) fought hard but had to settle for second on this day. Amy Carver out of Charlotte, NC was the top female and 12th overall.

Also of note, it was multi-time XTERRA racer Charlotte Mahan's (72 years old) last XTERRA as she announced her retirement at the event, she was the last one off the course but a nice size crowd hung out to greet her as she finished and congratulate her on a long and successful racing career, there were lots of hugs and emotions on display, she is a special lady!

Many thanks to all of the sponsors and all of the support that was given by the Nantahala Area Sorba club and the Swain County Rescue Squad.
