Ryan Woodall takes another win at the Newberry Cyclocross

2016 Newberry Cyclocross - Hailes  Trails - Newberry, Fl

A cold front blew in a day earlier but it was hard to tell as the temperatures climbed to nearly ninety degrees each day of the first ever Newberry CX race.  The property has been used for many years as a mountain bike course but this year the race weekend included the Florida Cyclocross series double header on the undulating terrain that surrounds the old limestone quarries.  There were plenty of ups and downs in the layout and the Ryan Woodall signature course was certain up for the challenge to the CX racers.

The top male rider on the weekend was again Ryan Woodall with a win in the Cat 1/2 open men's class and Amy Horstmeyer and Darla Woodall split wins on each of the days to claim the top female spots for the weekend.  Many thanks to all of the sponsors especially Top Gear Bicycles for providing the purse money and volunteers!

Climbers fest at Hailes trails FSC

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #3 - 10-2-16 - Hailes Trails - Newberry, Fl

Another beautiful weekend at round 3 of the FSC series, this time the circuit stops in Newberry near Gainesville and popular Haile's Trails course, one of the most demanding systems in the state.  Built on and around and old rock quarry, the surface is solid and elevation changes are numerous.  As always there were route changes from previous races on the property and this time part of the loop featured a long and fast downhill that basically traveled from the top of the property to the bottem in a short period of time.  Thankfully the temperatures were down just a bit and the humidity was more favorable than the first couple of rounds.

Saturday the trails were open for pre-riding and at 4pm the team time trial hit the course for the important bonus points towards the team championship and it was team Cyclevolution taking the win with the only team time under 25 minutes on the 5.8 mile course.  Sunday the elite class racers had another big battle with the heavy hitters and this time it was Doug Deweese coming out on top, that makes three different winners in three weeks for this class and in the women's class another new winner in the form of Simone Berger as she put her stamp on the potential short list of title contenders in the very competitive class.  The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Shawn Smith.

Many thanks to all of the sponsors and especially to Goodbike bicycles in Gainesville for their outstanding support of the race!

Junior 1/2's storm to the first turn in Alachua

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #4 - 10-16-16 - San Felasco Trails - Alachua, Fl

A touch of fall was in the air for the fourth round of the series in Alachua even though this was supposed to be the fifth round but of course Hurricane Matthew changed all of that.  The new fifth round will be at Fernandina Beach and we have confirmation the trails are in good shape thanks to volunteers from the area.  The kids race course was lengthened this year and included a good climb in the middle and it provided for some added challenges for the young racers.  The adult course was just a shade over 7 miles and was in great shape due to the volunteer base and the fact that there was just the right amount of rain on Saturday afternoon to really tighten up the trail.

In the men's elite class there was an epic battle in the lead group for most of the race and in a very close finish it was Bob McCarty coming out with the win and extending his points lead.  In the women's top class Simone Berger made it two in a row as she won her very competitive class.  The team championship top postions stay the same this week with Team Bent's Galaticus holding a slim 3 point lead nearing the halfway point of the series.

The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Simone Berger.

Many thanks to all of the sponsors and the the friends of San Felasco CSO club!

Lauren Roswell takes on Ft Clinch FSC

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #5  - 10-23-16 - Ft Clinch Trails - Fernandina Beach, Fl

After last years "high tide" ride it was refreshing to see dry trails and also refreshing that only two weeks after a major hurricane the park and trail system was up and operational again.  The local Volunteers along with the park management did a heroic job getting it back together with as many as a couple of dozen trees down on the seven mile loop.  Almost forgot to mention the weather was awesome, the first real cold front of the year rolled in and had temperatures in the 50's overnight and a comfortable mid sixties by race time, this really is the best time of year for Florida!

The elite men's class was again a barn burner and the series produced another new winner with Allison Anjos this time on top.  In the women's top class it was Simone Berger taking her third in a row on what many consider to be the most "roadie like" course on the circuit, Simone has proven so far to be able to handle the hilly courses, the technical courses and now the fastest courses.  The team championship top postion is again the same this week with Team Bent's Galaticus at the halfway point of the series.

The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Gary Chambers.

Many thanks to all of the fine sponsors!

Kayley Burdine powers on to another SERC win

2016 Specialized South Eastern Regional Championship series #8 - Desoto State Park Trails - Ft Payne, Al 7-10-16

Even after a torrential downpour on Saturday night, the course at Desoto park was ready to race the next morning, a little slick but not the mud fest one would expect.  The rocky terrain make for some very challenging racing and was perhaps the most techical course so far this season.

Kyle Ellis took the win the men's pro class while Kayley Burdine again showed dominated the women's cat 1 category.   Dustin Greer and Kayley Burdine continue to hold the yellow leaders jersey for each of their classes.  Many thanks to all of the sponsors like Protano Law that supports the $50 holeshot awards which was won by Pete Edmonson in the Cat 1 19-39 group.  Also thanks to the Ft Payne Cycling Club trail crew and to the park management for making us feel at home
