2011 Tsali Challenge - Tsali Trails, Bryson City, NC 8-27/28-2011: Hurricane Irene was on the minds of most but the bad weather never got close to Western NC as this years event was held in near perfect conditions.  The weekend kicked off with Saturday morning as the boats took off for a 3 mile loop around lake Fontana and then the athletes hit the trails for the next leg (a 5 mile run on the right loop of Tsali), last but not least the racers headed out for the 12.5 mile "left loop" which included the famous "overlook" section and then back to the finish.  Overall male was Rand Perkins and overall female was Julie Richards.  The following day the team relay race took place in the indentical conditions and it was team Woopacha (Mark Driscal / Lecky Haller / Brad Miller) taking the overall.  Bryson City Bicycles sponsored the event and surved up plenty of smiles with the swag and prizes. Congrats to all!

The 19-29 sport class heads for the hills in Helen, Ga

2011 Ellsworth Georgia State Championship  #6  -  Unicoi Trails, Helen, GA 7-17-2011: What a great way to finish the season, with temperatures in the sixties in the morning and 80's by race time, the very hilly 8.3 mile former National championship course was in super shape for the last race of the GSC series.  The competition was tough all day as many close championships came down to the wire in many classes.  The round sponsor for the event was North Star Bicycles and they handed out over $2000 in prizes to the racers.  Many thanks to all of the sponsors that made the race and the series possible. Top riders on the day were Seth Kemp (male 19-29 expert) and Kimberly Flynn (women expert).  The series banquet was held immediately following the race at the Unicoi State Lodge to a packed house as recipients of the overall series awards took the stage.  Special awards were given to the most improved rider of the series (Carter Anderson) and the outstanding sportsmanship award went to Monty Marshall.

Heather Davis "rocks on" at Monte Sano

2011 Specialized SERC / US Cup East series #9 - Monte Sano Trails, Huntsville, AL 7-10-2011: It was a tough challenge for even the seasoned racers on top of the Monte Sano mtn. with tempertures nearing 100 degrees and a very challenging 9.75 mile course that offers not only elevation change but some technical rock sections to boot.  Flat tires seemed to decend on the racers like rain resulting in numerous DNF's on the day.  The race was a bonus round however and as long as the racers started the event they at least walked away with 15 valuable points.  Many thanks to the SORBA Huntsville club for getting the course ready and helping work the event.  Also thanks to all of the sponsors that made the race a success, Bicycles Etc was the round sponsor and they handled out all of the swag for the top riders .  Top riders on the day were Victor Alber (male pro) and Kimberly Flynn (women pro).  Congrats to all of the racers!.
