Cat 2 30-39 winners celebrate in Hialeah CC3

2016 Coconut Cup #3 - 12-4-16 - Amelia Earheart Trails - Hialeah, Fl

The series has been on a roll lately with great weather, sunshine, low humidity and great course condtions have been the rule.  This weekend the Amelia Trail crew again worked their magic with the trail prep and design and put together a 6.8 mile mountain bike wonder land.  The race had added importance since it was also a make up race for the FSC series which wraps up next weekend in Ocala and that meant there would be a lot of FSC racers making the trip down to gain valuable points toward their championship quests.

The race action in the men's elite class was close most of the day but in the end multi time champ Bob McCarty took the overall and in a close points race in both the FSC and the CC series the women's top class was claimed by Simone Berger who also won the holeshot prize.

The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Simone Berger in the women's expert class.

Many thanks to all of the fine sponsors!

Marcus Barton takes the overall at Xterra Ft Yargo

2017 Xterra Ft Yargo - 4-29-17- Ft Yargo Trails - Winder, Ga

Perhaps the most perfect weekend for a Triathlon, mild temperatures, lot's of traction on the trails and the water temperature was right at 76 degrees.  The Athletes hit the water at 8am sharp and first out of the water was Michael Loutzenheiser but unfortunately his lead didn't last long as he suffered a fall on the bike leg and damaged his bike.  Next to take over the lead was Marcus Barton and he never let up from there on to the finish line for the overall win.  Christina Grant was the top female and 17th overall.  Many thanks to the Yargo Trail Crew for setting up the course and managing the volunteers and to all of the fine sponsors.  Our next Xterra is in Bryson City, NC on June 25th at the famous Tsali Trails.  For more on this race: Xterra news

McCarty has his revenge at Alafia

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #2 - 9-25-16 - Alafia River State Park - Lithia, Fl

The weather still feels like summer although it is officially fall but at least it felt like a "good" summer day with the humidity a little down and the sun shinning on the FSC racers.  The 6.7 mile challenging race course was in great shape thanks to the Swamp Club volunteers and a timely rain on Saturday evening that really tightened up the course.  There was a new section added this year called "spitfire" and it seemed to be a hit with the racers and had the feel of a amusement park ride as it dipped and rolled through the woods surrounding "North Creek".

On race day the Shimano youth racers took to the trails first with some exciting race action and then at 9:30 the yellow wave hit the first turn and the Protano Law $50 holeshot went to Shawn Smith this week as the riders quickly filed into a fast pace line for the rest of the four lap race.  It was one year ago that Bob McCarty was suffered a hard fall on this trail and was hospitalized for multiple injuries while racing for the lead and on this day Bob returned with true determination and won a hard fought battle with his competitors and the course to take the Elite class win.  In the women's top class it was Maddison McDaniel taking her second in a row win on what she considers her home course.  In the team championship it was Team Bent's Galactus with a perfect score which will protect their lead going into round three in Newberry.

Many thanks to all of the sponsors and especially to AJ's Bikes and Boards for their hugh support of the race and for their support of so many racers, there were lot's of AJ's jerseys seen riding around and many of them were on the podium!

Ryan Woodall takes another win at the Newberry Cyclocross

2016 Newberry Cyclocross - Hailes  Trails - Newberry, Fl

A cold front blew in a day earlier but it was hard to tell as the temperatures climbed to nearly ninety degrees each day of the first ever Newberry CX race.  The property has been used for many years as a mountain bike course but this year the race weekend included the Florida Cyclocross series double header on the undulating terrain that surrounds the old limestone quarries.  There were plenty of ups and downs in the layout and the Ryan Woodall signature course was certain up for the challenge to the CX racers.

The top male rider on the weekend was again Ryan Woodall with a win in the Cat 1/2 open men's class and Amy Horstmeyer and Darla Woodall split wins on each of the days to claim the top female spots for the weekend.  Many thanks to all of the sponsors especially Top Gear Bicycles for providing the purse money and volunteers!

Climbers fest at Hailes trails FSC

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #3 - 10-2-16 - Hailes Trails - Newberry, Fl

Another beautiful weekend at round 3 of the FSC series, this time the circuit stops in Newberry near Gainesville and popular Haile's Trails course, one of the most demanding systems in the state.  Built on and around and old rock quarry, the surface is solid and elevation changes are numerous.  As always there were route changes from previous races on the property and this time part of the loop featured a long and fast downhill that basically traveled from the top of the property to the bottem in a short period of time.  Thankfully the temperatures were down just a bit and the humidity was more favorable than the first couple of rounds.

Saturday the trails were open for pre-riding and at 4pm the team time trial hit the course for the important bonus points towards the team championship and it was team Cyclevolution taking the win with the only team time under 25 minutes on the 5.8 mile course.  Sunday the elite class racers had another big battle with the heavy hitters and this time it was Doug Deweese coming out on top, that makes three different winners in three weeks for this class and in the women's class another new winner in the form of Simone Berger as she put her stamp on the potential short list of title contenders in the very competitive class.  The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Shawn Smith.

Many thanks to all of the sponsors and especially to Goodbike bicycles in Gainesville for their outstanding support of the race!
