Bobby Fishbough nailed a win in Columbus

2016 Georgia State Championship #4 - Flat Rock Trails - Columbus, GA 5-21//22-16

Another great day of racing in the GSC series, the weather, the trail and the racing!  The 7 mile course was in great shape thanks to the CVA Sorba club and the Friday rains only made it better.  On Saturday the series short track event was held at 4pm with the white wave starting first and it was Noah Willaims taking the win on the last lap of the 3/4 mile mix of single track and dirt road.  In the yellow wave it was Dustin Greer with a late race push to take the win in the advanced wave which was 15 minutes plus 1 lap.

On Sunday Mose Howard was the top male rider as he battled with Dustin Greer for most of the race and Kayley Burdine won the women's class.  Many thanks again to the CVA Sorba club for prepairing the trails and working the road crossings and to all of the sponsors but especially the Bike Shop of Columbus who provided over $2000 in goods to the racers.

Cold at Conyers, hey but it was a dry cold.

2016 Specialized South Eastern Regional Championship series #3 / GSC #1 - Olymic Trails - Conyers, GA 4-10-16

Even though the date moved three weeks later on the calendar Conyers still proved to be a chilly affair, with temps near the 40's at start time.  The 6.7 mile course however was in great shape and flowing fast with the addition of some new wooden features that had the racers grinning every lap.

Kayley Burdine continued her sweep of the women's expert pro field and held on to the Super Sport yellow jersey for the third straight week and although Ryan Woodall was out of state he still garnered the yellow jersey by a few points over the day's winner Alex Meucci of Florida.

The event was also the opening round of the Georgia State Championship series and the next meeting is in Macon, GA on April 23rd & 24th for the Individual Time Trial and Cross country double header.

The Co-Ed Relay 50 mile teams celebrate at the Hammer Head

2016 Hammer Head 100 - Landbridge Trailhead - Ocala, FL 4-17-16.

It could not have been more perfect weather or conditions for the annual central Florida endurance race on the Greenway.  Roughly 250 racers hit the 25 loop that covers a wide variety of trail types and runs mainly West of the I-75 corridor of the trail system.  The race starts slowly with a moto paced start that grandually inches up to speed over about a mile of limestone double track and ends with a super fast sprint over the I-75 bridge and then into single track.  From there it gets interesting as about 3 miles in the trail gets tight and slow but then opens up through the "Nayles Trails" section and then on to maybe the toughest section called "Ern & Burn".  The way back is much faster with a 2 mile open limestone road section (although hilly) followed by 4 miles of single track and then more open limestone with a little singletrack sprinkled in along the way to the finish.

The 50/100 mile folks started at 8am and the 25 milers started an hour later, the route features two sag stops that are accessed from both directions so the riders are never more than 6 miles from food or water and did we mention that Santos Trailhead Bike Shop was the host of the sag stop at the critical SR 484 road crossing, as they have been every year since it's inception and what a great job they did as always, many thanks!

The race action saw John Murray repeat as the overall 25 mile winner, while a super close battle in the junior 25 mile class came down to the wire with Josiah House taking the win.  Brook Pace was the 25 mile female winner.  In the 50 mile categories it was Dwayne Algire taking a the overall win by a nose over Mose Howard and Jim Mcpherson took the 45+ male top spot.  Denise Fulco and John Hopkins teamed up for the Co-Ed title and Josselyn Guiterrez won the female 50 mile solo race.  The 100 mile relay team class was won by Leo Coleman and Robert Smith while Amy Hostmeyer took the female 100 mile trophy and Colorado's Ryan Petry topped the men's class as well as the 100 mile overall.

Congrats to all that raced, thanks to all the sponsors and to club OMBA, can't wait til next year!

Bart Minter sails through the finish at Macon GSC

2016 Georgia State Championship #2 - Thomson Trails - Macon, GA 4-23/24-16.

The weather was picture perfect for the annual double header at the LH Thomson factory trails in Macon.  Saturday the all important time trial lifted off at 3pm with Mose Howard posting a 19:04 min lap on the shortened 4.5 mile course while Stephanie Wilmert topped the women's side.  Sunday the temps started at around sixty and ended up around 75 degrees with lots of sunshine plus a Friday rain had the trail conditions just right.

The cross country action kicked off with the kids at 8:30am and the racing was close in nearly all the classes.  In the yellow wave it was Mose Howard again battling for the overall with Chris Lessing and Mose put the hammer down on the last lap and pulled away for the 40-49 cat 1 win while Lessing won the 19-39 cat 1's.  Kayley Burdine was once again victorious in the Women's cat 1 field and she remains unbeaten so far in the SERC and GSC series, it is time for a bounty?

Many thanks to all of the sponsors especially LH Thomson, also thanks to the OMBA club for all of their hard work with the trails and setting up the event and thanks to Monty Marshal for bringing out the backwards bicycle for a club fund raiser, that was entertaining!

Anthony Hutton pulls a Florida Cup holeshot

2016 Florida Cup - Haile's Trails - Newberry, FL 5-7-16

A late spring cool front blew through the state just in time for the annual Florida Cup one day USAC state championship race in Newberry.  The race was orginially scheduled for Lakeland but was moved to the popular yet rarely open private trail system.  The course had 6.4 miles of grueling climbs and decents and had one option with a steep downhill that was removed for the white wave racers making their course a little shorter at 6 miles per lap.  The conditions were dry fast and perfect for a mountain bike weekend.

The classes were chocked full of very competitive racers and races as Ryan Woodall took the top men's class over Alex Meucci and Madison McDaniel took a strong win over unbeaten SERC series leader Kayley Burdine in the women's cat 1 class.  All the chapions received a special Florida cup trophy and all the prizes were handed out thanks to Goodbike bike shop of Gainesville who did a awesome job with awards and entertainment for the weekend.  Thanks to all of the sponsors and congrats to all the champs!
