Juniors battle for the holeshot at Ocala final

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #9 - 12-11-16 - Santos Trails - Ocala, Fl

What a perfect way to wrap up a perfect season, great weather, no mudders and a great turnout!  It had rained a few days prior and it ended a drought that had been effecting the area for two months and it really made the trail system a pleasure, that along with a new layout made the course a challenge for the FSC warriors.  The course was only 6.6 miles but it included the famous or infamous technical "John Brown" trail and the tricky and momentumless "Sink Hole" trail but inbetween was fast and flowy single track that the racers could get their speed averages back up.  Santos Trailhead bike shop was the round sponsor again this year and as always they took care of filling the medalists with lots of cool awards at the podium presentations and they also this year put on the "Merry Crankxmas" ride on Saturday that took the riders out for a 25 mile tour of some of the best trails on the Greenway, many thanks!

Ok now to the race action in the men's elite class the pace seemed pretty high right away as a 3 man lead group was being chased by a small and determined chase group.  It was local Mike Mace in control most of the way until the last lap when mulit champ Ryan Woodall making his first appearance in the series this year took over and put a new winners name on the 2016 season.  In the women's top class there was a four way battle for the lead for most of the race and it came down to Caroyln Maddox taking the win over Simone Berger who rapped up the championship with her second place finish.  One of the closest points races of the day was between the top three racers in the men's 50+ expert class and with only one point separating them it would come down to who beat the other two to determine the champion, Jim McPherson was the champ at the end of the race by taking a convincing win.

The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Daniel Hidalgo in the men's 19-39 expert class.

The annual FSC banquet was held that afternoon at the Ocala Hilton to a packed house of over 250 racers and families along with special guest speaker Tour De France veteran and Olymipian Frankie Andreu

Team Galactus (Bent's Cycling) was the winning team and other special awards went to the following..

ROY (rider of the year) Male: Bob McCarty

ROY Female: Simone Berger

MIR (most improved rider): Alecio Goncalves

MIR Junior: Tyler Junkins

MIR Female: Simone Berger

ESPO (sportsmanship): Salvador Gonzalez

Best Supporting Cast: Mosies Inoa

Legacy: RJ White

Atomic wheel set winner: Corey Lukosavich

Kuat Bike race winner: Julian Duque

Congrats to all of the champ's, finalists, racers, sponsors and families!

Cat 2 40+ lifts off at Tom Brown FSC

2017 Specialized Florida State Championship series #2 - Tom Brown Park - Tallahassee, Fl

The weather broke at just the right time for the second round of the FSC series, mild temperatures and low humidity ruled the day (ok both days). This year the annual short track bounus round was moved to Tom Brown park due to the many changes after the hurricane in what worked out to be an exciting and challenging course it even had a nice climb in it each lap. Doug Deweese came out on top of the Saturday yellow wave short track event but it was super close, Caroyln Maddox took the top female spot. Antonio Marquina also took a close win in the white wave ST.

Sunday the attention moved to the 6.8 mile cross country course which saw the return of "Cudzilla" the bmx style downhill section located in the middle of the course and who could forget the "Wall People" heckling the riders as they banked there way around the wooden wall feature. The course was in great shape again this year thanks to all of the efforts of the volunteers cleaning up after the storm. Defending champ Bob McCarty got his first win of the season in what is shaping up to be a tight points battle for the Elite leaders jersey. Amy Horstmeyer was the winner in the women's top class.

Many thanks to Higher Ground bicycles for handing out all of the great prizes to the awardees!

Next race is in Lithia, Fl for the third round of the series at Alafia River State Park, see you there!

Rogerio Filho leads the charge at Amelia 2 Coconut Cup

2017 Coconut Cup #6 - Amelia Earhart Park Trails - Hialeah, Fl

One could not have asked for better weather for the weekend's race, a timely rain on Thursday made the course super fast and the sunshine and warmth was a bonus for the participants.  The Amelia Trail Crew as always created a challenging course for the races with both an individual time trial loop and a 6.4 mile cross country loop.  Saturday saw the riders hammering the TT course for bonus points and it was no suprise that Bob McCarty took the top honors and Juliana Cauley stood on top of the women's podium with her fast time.

Sunday the races kicked off with the kids hitting a shorter kids loop that measured 2.1 miles and with a big turnout the racing was competitve yet safe.  There were a lot of close races and in some classes the points standings are just as close as the  racers are fighting for the last best chance to position themselves before the final series event next week at Markham Park.  One of the closest races was between Daniel Hildalgo and Bob McCarty with Daniel getting the nod for the overall but both were presented with wins in there respective classes.  Simone Berger was the top female on Sunday as well.

The Protano $50 holeshot went to Daniel Hidalgo and the Samson Bicycles holeshot awards went to Marcos Rodriguez and Wally Pilat.

Robert Smith took the Solo Class at San Felasco

2016 8 Hours of Labor - San Felasco Trails - Alachua, Fl

After an amazing recovery following the Hurricane that passed through the area on Thursday, thanks to the efforts of the park management, the Friends of San Felasco and various other volunteers the 8.5 mile race route was open and ready for action.  There were about a dozen trees that had fallen and much of the trail was hard to find due to the tree debri that had fallen on the course.  By race time it was overcast but dry and the race started without a hitch but then with about 2 hours to go they skies had their way and let loose the rain was to end the race and turn an 8 Hour event into a 6 Hour.  Everyone seemed to be in agreement and the champs were celebrated and low and behold the rain did stop just in time for the awards and happiness was restored.

Robert Smith took the top male solo spot and Cynthia Morales was the top female on the day.  The 3 person team of AJ's Grumpy pickles was the fastest of the teams and finished with 9 laps in the books.

Many thanks to all of the fine sponsors, to the riders that braved the weather reports and to all of the volunteers that really did make the event possible.

Tim Zimmerman flying low at Alva FSC

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #8 / Coconut Cup #2 - 11-20-16 - Caloosahatche Trails - Alva, Fl

Awesome weather again for the combined FSC / CC race series, last year was of course a mudder but not this year if anything it was a little on the dry side and that is ok by us!  This course is normally the longest trail on the circuit and this year it was even longer as the local club the Mudcutters added an extra half mile of technical trail to the loop making it a total of 10.5 miles.  Many would think this trail would be flat and uneventful since it is located in a relatively flat part of a flat state but those many would be wrong, this course does have it's share of flat sections but they are layed out in a way that makes them fun and fast and then there is other half of the trails that are nothing hills and ridges and very demanding.

Well the race action has been close all year and race eight was right on track with some new and old winners on the day.  In the men's elite class the normal train of riders got busted up early for some reason and a three rider group lead by Mike Mace took it all the way to the finish giving Mace his second overall win of the season, meanwhile in the women's group it was Erica Zeboor with a close win over series leader Carolyn Maddox.

The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Troy Zimmerman in the 50+ expert class.

Many thanks to all of the fine sponsors!

Team Bent's Galacticus is the leader in the team championship standings.
