2017 12 Hours of Santos - Vortex Trails - Ocala, Fl
The weather was the subject on the minds of most at this years event as the forcast had not been good for about a week out but fortunately luck was on our side as mild temperatures and at least two near misses with heavy rain. It did manage to rain during the awards but everyone seemed not to care at that point, we had dodged a bullet. The 9 mile course was in great shape for most of the day with a little slickness later on. The layout was certainly creative, many thanks to Ron Henion for putting together a fun and challenging trail!
The turnout was amazing despite the weather forcasts with just over 400 racers hitting the popular trail system at 10am sharp with a running start and a mad dash to be the first into the single track. At the end of the day the top 12 hour solo racers were Andrew Hilling and Kristy Cole while the top team was WCC Avengers. Charlie Mullins was the top 3 hour male winner and Madison McDaniel took the female honors, top 6 hour racers were Ryan Woodall and Beata Wronska. Many thanks to all of the sponsors and the OMBA club for building and maintaining the trails!

2017 Coconut Cup #5 - 1-29-17 - Quiet Water Park Trails - Deerfield Bch, Fl
Well Saturday was great weather, unfortunately the race was Sunday and the series return to the park after more than a decade (due to hurricane damage in 2005) was dampened a little by an unusual cold front that brought cold wet conditions to the racers that braved the elements.ÂÂ On the bright side it was proably the best course to ride in the rain and the turnout was suprisingly good considering the weather.
The 6.9 mile course was a challenge as the route twists and turns through ancient coral beds and has a number of man made features to spice things up a bit as well.ÂÂ Many thanks to Bike America for sponsoring the event and to all of the dedicated volunteers that not only preped the course but worked all day in the rain to help keep the riders safe and on track.ÂÂ Bala Almeida took a strong win in the expert 19-39 class while Erica Zaboor was the women's winner.
