2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #4 - 10-16-16 - San Felasco Trails - Alachua, Fl
A touch of fall was in the air for the fourth round of the series in Alachua even though this was supposed to be the fifth round but of course Hurricane Matthew changed all of that. The new fifth round will be at Fernandina Beach and we have confirmation the trails are in good shape thanks to volunteers from the area. The kids race course was lengthened this year and included a good climb in the middle and it provided for some added challenges for the young racers. The adult course was just a shade over 7 miles and was in great shape due to the volunteer base and the fact that there was just the right amount of rain on Saturday afternoon to really tighten up the trail.
In the men's elite class there was an epic battle in the lead group for most of the race and in a very close finish it was Bob McCarty coming out with the win and extending his points lead. In the women's top class Simone Berger made it two in a row as she won her very competitive class. The team championship top postions stay the same this week with Team Bent's Galaticus holding a slim 3 point lead nearing the halfway point of the series.
The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Simone Berger.
Many thanks to all of the sponsors and the the friends of San Felasco CSO club!

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #3 - 10-2-16 - Hailes Trails - Newberry, Fl
Another beautiful weekend at round 3 of the FSC series, this time the circuit stops in Newberry near Gainesville and popular Haile's Trails course, one of the most demanding systems in the state. Built on and around and old rock quarry, the surface is solid and elevation changes are numerous. As always there were route changes from previous races on the property and this time part of the loop featured a long and fast downhill that basically traveled from the top of the property to the bottem in a short period of time. Thankfully the temperatures were down just a bit and the humidity was more favorable than the first couple of rounds.
Saturday the trails were open for pre-riding and at 4pm the team time trial hit the course for the important bonus points towards the team championship and it was team Cyclevolution taking the win with the only team time under 25 minutes on the 5.8 mile course. Sunday the elite class racers had another big battle with the heavy hitters and this time it was Doug Deweese coming out on top, that makes three different winners in three weeks for this class and in the women's class another new winner in the form of Simone Berger as she put her stamp on the potential short list of title contenders in the very competitive class. The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Shawn Smith.
Many thanks to all of the sponsors and especially to Goodbike bicycles in Gainesville for their outstanding support of the race!
