2017 South Eastern Regional Championship series #1 / Florida Cup - Haile's Trails - Newberry, Fl
The opening shots were fired in the 18th annual SERC series in it's traditional first round location of Haile's trails and It was Ryan Woodall and Amy Horstmeyer taking the wins in the men's and women's pro fields respectively. With the weather and the trails treating the riders well there was only one thing left to determine and that was the finishing order as the many competitive races unfolded. The 6 mile course featured a number of steep climbs (no suprise for this course) and some fast downhills as a reward as many consider this to be the most demanding trail in Florida and a perfect host for a regional and Florida Cup state level mountain bike race.
Many thanks to all of the series sponsors and especially to Goodbike bike shop of Gainesville for providing thousands of dollars worth of prizes for the athletes. In each of the classes the top Florida rider was presented with a special Florida Cup trophy and claim to the one day state title for that particular class, congrats to all!ÂÂ The next round of the SERC series is in Bryson City, NC at the famous Tsali Trails.

2017 Georgia State Championship series #1 - LH Thomson Trails, Macon, Ga
The opening round of the GSC started out as a great weekend, the sun was out the temps were in the 70's and the trail was in super shape but that was on Saturday and although the time trial was held in those optimum conditions the race on Sunday was another story.
A cold wet day faced the racers on Sunday morning the temperatures never made it out of the 40's all day and with the rain and wind it was a show of bravery just to line up but the trail however was in good shape, in fact local knowledge says it may be the best rain course in the central Georgia area and I believe it. Many thanks to the OMBA club (Olkmulgee Mountain Bike Association) for all of their efforts in not only prepping the race course and marking it but marshaling the event as well, oh yes and thanks very much for the fire pit, wow what a life saver!
Dustin White won the very competitive 19-39 expert class while Mose Howard from the 40-49 class was the overall winner. Mary Gilmer took home the top women's honors. Saturdays time trial was won by Mose Howard as well and Stephanie Wilmert was the top female. Next GSC will be in Conyers on April 9th.
