Juniors battle for the holeshot at Ocala final

2016 Specialized Florida State Championship series #9 - 12-11-16 - Santos Trails - Ocala, Fl

What a perfect way to wrap up a perfect season, great weather, no mudders and a great turnout!  It had rained a few days prior and it ended a drought that had been effecting the area for two months and it really made the trail system a pleasure, that along with a new layout made the course a challenge for the FSC warriors.  The course was only 6.6 miles but it included the famous or infamous technical "John Brown" trail and the tricky and momentumless "Sink Hole" trail but inbetween was fast and flowy single track that the racers could get their speed averages back up.  Santos Trailhead bike shop was the round sponsor again this year and as always they took care of filling the medalists with lots of cool awards at the podium presentations and they also this year put on the "Merry Crankxmas" ride on Saturday that took the riders out for a 25 mile tour of some of the best trails on the Greenway, many thanks!

Ok now to the race action in the men's elite class the pace seemed pretty high right away as a 3 man lead group was being chased by a small and determined chase group.  It was local Mike Mace in control most of the way until the last lap when mulit champ Ryan Woodall making his first appearance in the series this year took over and put a new winners name on the 2016 season.  In the women's top class there was a four way battle for the lead for most of the race and it came down to Caroyln Maddox taking the win over Simone Berger who rapped up the championship with her second place finish.  One of the closest points races of the day was between the top three racers in the men's 50+ expert class and with only one point separating them it would come down to who beat the other two to determine the champion, Jim McPherson was the champ at the end of the race by taking a convincing win.

The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Daniel Hidalgo in the men's 19-39 expert class.

The annual FSC banquet was held that afternoon at the Ocala Hilton to a packed house of over 250 racers and families along with special guest speaker Tour De France veteran and Olymipian Frankie Andreu

Team Galactus (Bent's Cycling) was the winning team and other special awards went to the following..

ROY (rider of the year) Male: Bob McCarty

ROY Female: Simone Berger

MIR (most improved rider): Alecio Goncalves

MIR Junior: Tyler Junkins

MIR Female: Simone Berger

ESPO (sportsmanship): Salvador Gonzalez

Best Supporting Cast: Mosies Inoa

Legacy: RJ White

Atomic wheel set winner: Corey Lukosavich

Kuat Bike race winner: Julian Duque

Congrats to all of the champ's, finalists, racers, sponsors and families!

Cat 2 30-39 winners celebrate in Hialeah CC3

2016 Coconut Cup #3 - 12-4-16 - Amelia Earheart Trails - Hialeah, Fl

The series has been on a roll lately with great weather, sunshine, low humidity and great course condtions have been the rule.  This weekend the Amelia Trail crew again worked their magic with the trail prep and design and put together a 6.8 mile mountain bike wonder land.  The race had added importance since it was also a make up race for the FSC series which wraps up next weekend in Ocala and that meant there would be a lot of FSC racers making the trip down to gain valuable points toward their championship quests.

The race action in the men's elite class was close most of the day but in the end multi time champ Bob McCarty took the overall and in a close points race in both the FSC and the CC series the women's top class was claimed by Simone Berger who also won the holeshot prize.

The Protano Law Holeshot $50 award went to Simone Berger in the women's expert class.

Many thanks to all of the fine sponsors!
