Rooting around at Oleta

Coconut Cup #7– Oleta River State Park – North Miami, Fl Awesome spring day in South Florida as round number seven held court in Oleta River park for the second to last race in the series. The 7 mile Oleta course is uniquely challenging with all of it’s roots, rocks and tight turns and was a test of a racers skill set for sure. The Oleta Trail Blazers club helped out immensely with prepping the trail and working the marshaling duties, many thanks! Race action saw current state Champion Victor Alber claim the win in the men’s elite class while […]

Haul’n in the Hammock

Florida Endurance series #3 + TT#2 – San Felasco Trails –Alachua, Fl A wee bit chilly but great race conditions for the third round of the series at San Felasco trails, a cold front blew in on Friday night but thankfully it only rained the perfect amount and left the Time Trial racers with a fast tacky 10.5 mile course. Saturday’s top TT racers were Gilberto Araujo and Adriana Leon. Sunday the sun came out but brisk temperatures kept the rider cooled down for the three sprint laps of 10.5 miles each and the marathon six lap affair. Top sprint

Grind’n in the Swamp

Florida Gravel Grinder series #4 + TT – Green Swamp – Dade City, Fl Beautiful March weekend in Central Florida for the final round of the FGG series, a little chilly in the morning but great race weather as the day slowly warmed up with Sunny skies. Saturday’s bonus time trial was run on the first 9.4 miles of the regular course featuring an out an back hard surface for the most part and was won by Gilberto Araujo and Valerie Rosso. GSC kickoff in Jackson

Georgia State Championship series #1 + TT#1 – Dauset trails – Jackson, Ga It is always a little risky scheduling a bike race in Georgia in early March, you never really know what the weather is going to do till it happens. Well we got lucky this weekend as forecasted storms on Friday missed the area and very mild temperatures dominated the weekend which was a perfect recipe for a mountain bike race at the popular Dauset trails. A 7.5 mile loop was laid out that had a typical single track feel for the first half then became fast and

Seminole Spinfest

Florida Gravel Grinder series #3 – Seminole Forest – Eustis, Fl Great turnout for the second to last round of the FGG series at Seminole Forest just North of Orlando. Weather was a taste of summer with temp’s in the upper 80’s and while last years race was wet this one was dry and bit dusty for those stuck in the back of the pack. The 16.8 mile loop which features a variety of views and surfaces was traveled twice by the sprint classes and four times by the marathon groups and for the third race in a row Owen

Earning wings at Santos

Florida Endurance series #2 12 hours of Santos – Vortex Trails – Ocala, Fl This event is always a highlight of season, whether for the endurance or XC as about 350 racers came together for the annual 12 hour. This year we made it a special tribute to Moises Inoa our sports famed photographer who passed away just a few weeks ago by naming it the 12 Hours of Santos / Osito. The weather was amazing this year with just the right amount of rain on Friday to tighten up the trail grip and mild temp’s on Saturday to help

Gone with the Wind

Florida Gravel Grinder series #2 + FLE make up – 3 Forks Recreation area – Palm Bay, Fl One word can sum up this race… WIND! This levee course is known for great gravel riding, it has some of the best road surfaces for gravel in the state and has lots of straight sections that lend itself to good group riding and racing but “o-the-wind”. A cold front blew in overnight and with sustained head and cross winds in the 20-30 mph range and gusts even higher, plus the lack of trees had the riders facing literally no breaks for

Mt Dyer double header

Coconut Cup #6 + ST– Dyer Park – West Palm Beach, Fl Between the time of this event and time this is being written we have been informed of the sad news that one of our friends and friend to the sport has passed away. Moises Inoa (Osito King Racing) was a former bike racer turned photographer / video enthusiast who took thousands of pictures of the races over the years and produced high quality videos for all to see for free on his face book page “Osito king racing”. He was a great person, always happy, always smiling and

Markham Masher Mayhem

Florida Endurance series #1 + TT#1 – Markham Woods Park – Lake Mary, Fl What a contrast to last years ice box race where the temps were in the 20’s, this year was shall we say a perfect day to be outside and ride ones bike. The SORBA Orlando club was again on top of things and they had a nice layout that consisted of a steady mix of twisty single track and some double track thrown in to allow for passing plus about 11 to 12 inches of elevation changes just to keep things interesting (ok that wasn’t fair,
