12 Hours of santos wrap up

Florida Endurance series #3 – 12 hours of Santos – Vortex trails – Ocala, Fl

We could not have asked for better weather for the annual 12 hour race at the Vortex. Last year the race had to be cut short due to rain (and it was a bit cold as well), this year it was just picture perfect all day and night. It was a little longer course this year as well measuring nine miles per lap (not counting the first half loop to spread the riders out). Many thanks to all of the sponsors and thanks to club OMBA for maintaining the trails and to Ron Henion for the design and hard work getting ready for the race.

The racing was fun to watch and even fun-er (if that is a word) for the winners. Gene Abreu started it off with the men’s 3 hour top position and Carolyn Maddox claimed the women’s win both completing four laps. In the 6 hour categories Mark Delibertis took home the trophy with nine laps with a time of 5:49:23 and Jennifer Moos was the winner in a strong women’s field. The 12 hour solo winner was Bob McCarty logging 17 laps with a time of 11:24:25 while Jessica Nankman was awarded the solo women’s 12 hour top prize. Fastest of the 2 person teams was “Woodall Factory Racing” of Ryan Woodall and wife Darla Woodall and topping the four person teams was “Grumpy Pickles” with Martin Bucheli, Scott Johnson, Bill Renninger and Jim Macpherson. Congrats to all that raced this very challenging event! Next round of the FLE series in Alachua on March 9th hope to see everyone there!
