Florida Endurance series #2 + Time Trial#1 – Markham Woods Masher – Lake Mary, Fl
It was a dry one, yup, despite all of the doom and gloom about how the day was going to be a rainy washout it only dropped three maybe four small drops that I could see. The course could have actually used some of the wet stuff as it was a little loose in some of the turns. And temperatures were shall we say perfect t-shirt weather. The forecast certainly hurt the attendance but all in all the riders seemed to have a great time thanks to SORBA Orlando and their excellent course prep and course marshalling and also bringing lot’s of smiles were the prizes handed out by the round sponsor Retro City Cycles, many thanks to all!
Mark Delibertis hammered out a fast pace in Saturdays time trial and ended up on top of the score board with a 29:21 minute time for 7.7 miles and Sue Van Bernum was the best of the female competitors in the first of two time trials for the series. Sunday it seemed everyone expected the rain but instead the racers were treated with a flowy, fast and dry 10.3 mile course and on this day Braxton Meloon took the marathon open class win while Dianna Bridges won the women’s long distance race. In the sprint distance classes it was Katherine Doyle and Alberto Maracano claiming the women’s and men’s open short distance races respectively. The FLE leaders jerseys will stay on the shoulders of Dianna Bridges and Bob McCarty going into the next round of the series which is the 12 Hours of Santos on 2-17 in Ocala, see you there!
