Florida Endurance series #4 – San Felasco Trails – Alachua, Fl
Timing is everything right? Overall we can’t complain after a week of great temperatures in Central Florida a cold front blew in and boy did it change things, first we dodged a bullet in that the storm damage was light in the Gainesville area as opposed to some locations to the South but the park did have to remove 4 trees on the course before the start of the TT. Then the temperature dropped almost a 40 degrees overnight and the endurance racers were faced with a brisk thirty something race start, it did however warm up nicely by the time of the awards however. Can’t thank the Friends of San Felasco volunteers enough for helping with the event and for course marshalling during those cold early hours.
The 10.3 mile course had a little of everything from fast and flowing single track to some relentless climbs and rooty sections and was amazingly in great shape after all of the weeks heavy rain totals. Jack Mizzoni took home the men’s top marathon position and Patricia Doring won the women’s long distance race. The Pemon Cycling Wear leaders jerseys will remain in the hands of Mark Delibertis and Nikki Davies however as they continue to lead the points after four rounds and a time trial bonus. In the sprint classes it was Mike Mace and Pauline Dockins taking the men’s and women’s 30 mile classes respectively. Next FLE series race will be the Hammer Head in Ocala on April 3rd.
