Georgia State Championship series #8 + Time Trial #2 – Brown’s Mill trails – Newnan, Ga
The 17th addition of the Georgia State Championship series ended with a picture perfect weekend in Newnan. The series featured three new locations this year and the final race was one of the them, the 7 mile course Brown’s Mill trail had a fast but challenging feel to it with lots of ups and downs and virtually no rest for the athletes. A rain on Thursday brought the trails just the moisture it needed for good traction on both days of racing.
Saturday the final bonus race of the series was held as a one lap Individual Time Trial at 3pm and the top male and female riders were Joseph Dabbs and Hailey Nelson respectively.
Joseph Dabbs took a commanding lead early at Sunday’s cross country and won the overall men’s race with a 14.9 mph average for 28 miles while Maxine Richards logged the fastest times for the women’s classes and took a narrow two second win in the junior women division.
Sunday afternoon the series awards presentation was held at the nearby Coweta County Fairgrounds banquet facility and with a packed house in attendance the top racers from each category were honored with numerous prizes and awards including plaques and champions jerseys. Special awards were also given to the MIR (most improved rider) Benjamin Fountain, MIJ (most improved junior) Ethan Muyres and MIF (most improved female) Hailey Nelson. Many thanks to our series sponsors and to all of the volunteers that helped make the series a success. Congratulations to all and hope to see you all at the races next year!
