Vanilla frosting at Chassa

Vanilla frosting at Chassa

Florida Gravel Grinder series #4 – Chassahowitzka Grind – Brooksville, Fl

There was no dust on this day at the tranquil park named Chassahowitzka just North of Weeki Wachee springs. On Saturdays pre ride the concern was just that “dust” on the well maintained but dry limestone roads but Sunday Mother Nature took care of that issue. Overall the traction remained good but the wet roads coated the racers in nice thin layer of whitish mud that resembled vanilla frosting.

Racing was very competitive despite the conditions as one would expect with a hefty $1200 purse up for grabs thanks to Scarborough Bicycle Accident Law. So here is a quick rundown of the days actions, in the men’s sprint open class it was Zachary Osborne (of motocross fame) by a shade over 3 seconds in the 26.5 mile race while Jeyris Torres claimed the women’s sprint win. In the battle for the cash (the marathon open classes) it was a three way duel to finish for the men’s class as Derek Shanze was able to take the win after an early fall while Jamie Rothaugh also in a close finish walked away with the top cash in the women’s open field.

Many thanks to all of the riders, sponsors and volunteers that made it happen. Next and final round of the series 4-12/13 in Middleburg, Fl!
