Florida State Championship series #1 + TT – Tom Brown Trails – Tallahassee, Fl

Wow what a change in the weather, it has been a long hot muggy summer and then all of the sudden a cool snap rolled in and along with low humidity it had everyone grinning, especially the competitors. The trails were in awesome shape as well thanks to club TMBA (Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association) and the city of Tallahassee, many thanks!

The series kicked off Saturday at 3pm with the annual Time Trial, a one lap rider vs the clock affair that saw Reed Legg take the men’s overall and Darla Woodall rising to the top in the women’s field, the course was 6.5 miles in length and Reed covered in 22:30.92 min for a blistering average speed of 17.3mph.

Sunday’s races were started when the Shimano Youth series burst off the line at 8:30am with a large group of kids which is a good sign of health of the sport. The Elite men shot off of the line at 9:30am, which launched the yellow wave and the pace was furious all the way to the finish line. In the end it was Reed Legg once again on the top of the podium and Lauren Smith claimed the women’s top spot with a strong ride. The Neutral Sport Leaders jerseys were presented to the top male and female riders after the TT and XC rounds and it will be Reed Legg and Darla Woodall carrying the jerseys to the next round in Jacksonville on 9-21.

Team “Muddy Santos Schredders” has taken an early lead in the team championship but there are four teams that are within 10 points.

The Epic Bikes $50 fast cash went to the top male and female TT races and Z-Boys paid a fast lap fifty dollars to the elite men’s winner. Epic Bikes of Tallahassee also sponsored and supplied primes to various classes, many thanks!

The E MTB series also kicked off at 1:30pm on Sunday and the racers faced a shorter / tighter course than the analog bikes with each class doing four laps each, in the end it was Nick Mackie with men’s expert win and Stephanie Lamer with the women’s win.
