Florida Endurance series #5 – Hammer Head – Landbridge Trailhead – Ocala, Fl Was a wee bit chilly for the start of the  17th annual Hammer Head with temperatures in the 40’s but warming up nicely into the upper 70’s by midday. The trail was 26 miles this year (a little longer than normal) which included a newly built OMBA (Ocala mountain bike association) trail (Infinity) that added even more nice flow to the route, many thanks to the club for the hard work!   Now to the racing action, in the sprint twenty six mile open class it was […]

Schanze & Sullian duke out in seminole

Florida Gravel Grinder series #3 – Seminole Forest – Eustis, Fl All the stars lined up for round three of the FGG series as the weather was amazing, the roads were smooth and this year the water crossings were dry. The forest service put down a heavy layer of limestone and paved it smooth just weeks before the event so it was in stark contrast to the last few years where watching for potholes and diving through water crossings were part of the game. The average speeds reflected the changes as most improved by a couple mph over the 2024

12 Hours of santos wrap up

Florida Endurance series #3 – 12 hours of Santos – Vortex trails – Ocala, Fl We could not have asked for better weather for the annual 12 hour race at the Vortex. Last year the race had to be cut short due to rain (and it was a bit cold as well), this year it was just picture perfect all day and night. It was a little longer course this year as well measuring nine miles per lap (not counting the first half loop to spread the riders out). Many thanks to all of the sponsors and thanks to club

Long and windy road

Florida Gravel Grinder series #2 – 3 Forks Rec area – Palm Bay, Fl When a weather forecast is made it is important to look at the details, if you just glance at the headlines for Sundays Central Florida weather there were terms like “washout”, “all day rain” and 95% chance of rain.
