Jammin in Jennings

Florida Gravel Grinder series #5 – Jennings Forest Grind – Middleburg, Fl Could not have ordered a more perfect day to race bicycles, especially in Jennings Forest, there was much needed rain on Friday that packed down the freshly graded limestone that covered what was a sand section last year making for a smoking fast surface and an amazingly fun ride on a gravel bike. Saturday the second individual time trial of the series was held featuring one full lap of the 18.7 mile course. Top male rider in the TT was Trent Maddox while Phoebe Maisto logged the women’s […]

Vanilla frosting at Chassa

Florida Gravel Grinder series #4 – Chassahowitzka Grind – Brooksville, Fl There was no dust on this day at the tranquil park named Chassahowitzka just North of Weeki Wachee springs. On Saturdays pre ride the concern was just that “dust” on the well maintained but dry limestone roads but Sunday Mother Nature took care of that issue. Overall the traction remained good but the wet roads coated the racers in nice thin layer of whitish mud that resembled vanilla frosting. Racing was very competitive despite the conditions as one would expect with a hefty $1200 purse up for grabs thanks

Hammering away in ocala

Florida Endurance series #5 – Hammer Head – Landbridge Trailhead – Ocala, Fl Was a wee bit chilly for the start of the  17th annual Hammer Head with temperatures in the 40’s but warming up nicely into the upper 70’s by midday. The trail was 26 miles this year (a little longer than normal) which included a newly built OMBA (Ocala mountain bike association) trail (Infinity) that added even more nice flow to the route, many thanks to the club for the hard work!   Now to the racing action, in the sprint twenty six mile open class it was

Hialeah Hustlers

Florida Endurance series #4 – Hialeah Hustle – Amelia Earhart park – Hialeah, Fl Round four of the series landing at Amelia Earhart park for the annual Hialeah Hustle and the weather was great for this time of year (a little dry but other than that we can’t complain). The Amelia Trail crew had the trails in great shape and put together a fun and punchy 8 mile loop which the racers had the choice of doing four laps (sprint) or eight laps (marathon). There was a close fought battle in the men’s marathon race amongst about five riders up

Schanze & Sullian duke out in seminole

Florida Gravel Grinder series #3 – Seminole Forest – Eustis, Fl All the stars lined up for round three of the FGG series as the weather was amazing, the roads were smooth and this year the water crossings were dry. The forest service put down a heavy layer of limestone and paved it smooth just weeks before the event so it was in stark contrast to the last few years where watching for potholes and diving through water crossings were part of the game. The average speeds reflected the changes as most improved by a couple mph over the 2024

12 Hours of santos wrap up

Florida Endurance series #3 – 12 hours of Santos – Vortex trails – Ocala, Fl We could not have asked for better weather for the annual 12 hour race at the Vortex. Last year the race had to be cut short due to rain (and it was a bit cold as well), this year it was just picture perfect all day and night. It was a little longer course this year as well measuring nine miles per lap (not counting the first half loop to spread the riders out). Many thanks to all of the sponsors and thanks to club

Coconut Cup fun in the sun

Coconut Cup series #5 – Oleta River State Park – N. Miami, Fl Was a warm one but not too hot, the sun was shining and trails were demanding as always at Oleta. The Oleta Trailblazers had the trails trimmed back nicely and with a new variation of trails for the racers the 6.75 mile was a challenge to all levels. Angel Rodriguez claimed his third win in a row after a tough battle with his competitors and one particular tree and Patricia Doring also started a streak of her own with two straight in the women’s expert class.
