Earning wings at Santos

Florida Endurance series #2 12 hours of Santos – Vortex Trails – Ocala, Fl This event is always a highlight of season, whether for the endurance or XC as about 350 racers came together for the annual 12 hour. This year we made it a special tribute to Moises Inoa our sports famed photographer who passed away just a few weeks ago by naming it the 12 Hours of Santos / Osito. The weather was amazing this year with just the right amount of rain on Friday to tighten up the trail grip and mild temp’s on Saturday to help […]

Gone with the Wind

Florida Gravel Grinder series #2 + FLE make up – 3 Forks Recreation area – Palm Bay, Fl One word can sum up this race… WIND! This levee course is known for great gravel riding, it has some of the best road surfaces for gravel in the state and has lots of straight sections that lend itself to good group riding and racing but “o-the-wind”. A cold front blew in overnight and with sustained head and cross winds in the 20-30 mph range and gusts even higher, plus the lack of trees had the riders facing literally no breaks for

Mt Dyer double header

Coconut Cup #6 + ST– Dyer Park – West Palm Beach, Fl Between the time of this event and time this is being written we have been informed of the sad news that one of our friends and friend to the sport has passed away. Moises Inoa (Osito King Racing) was a former bike racer turned photographer / video enthusiast who took thousands of pictures of the races over the years and produced high quality videos for all to see for free on his face book page “Osito king racing”. He was a great person, always happy, always smiling and

Markham Masher Mayhem

Florida Endurance series #1 + TT#1 – Markham Woods Park – Lake Mary, Fl What a contrast to last years ice box race where the temps were in the 20’s, this year was shall we say a perfect day to be outside and ride ones bike. The SORBA Orlando club was again on top of things and they had a nice layout that consisted of a steady mix of twisty single track and some double track thrown in to allow for passing plus about 11 to 12 inches of elevation changes just to keep things interesting (ok that wasn’t fair,

Grabbing the Gravel

Florida Gravel Grinder series #1 – Cary Forest – Bryceville, Fl Perfect weather for the start of the ’23 series in North Florida as a cold front and overnight rains provided the racers with a packed course and cool temps to race in. SORBA Jax did an outstanding job once again with the course layout, marking and marshaling and Champion Cycling provided the prizes for the awardees, many thanks to both! There were two race days and two loops for the opening round with a Time Trial on Saturday that featured a super fast 7.25 mile circuit and Sunday the

Cold Snap at VK Coconut Cup

Coconut Cup #5 – Virginia Key Park – Miami, Fl Ahaaa Virginia Key Beach, Florida beautiful views and great weather, right!? Well kind of, it certainly looked attractive but the temps were in the 40’s as the sun rose over the bay which made for a chilly start to the day of racing. The Virginia Key mountain bike club was out however in the cold and had the 7 mile course running hot for the racers and the day actually did warm up nicely by mid afternoon to perfectly clear skies, ok so now we were back in South Florida!

Slinging bars at Santos

Florida State Championship series #8 / CC make up – Santos Trails – Ocala, Fl What a fine way to end the 30th annual FSC season, the trails were in perfect shape, the temperatures were mild and the excitement was in the air as the ’22 season wrote its final chapter. Many thanks to the Ocala Mountain Bike Association (OMBA) for building, maintaining and helping with the event. The course was a tough one this year with three notable sections that kept the racers busy during the 7.5 mile loop. This trail is also notorious for mechanical problems especially flat

Hialeah Hammer Time

Coconut Cup series #4 / FSC make up – Amelia Earhart Trails – Hialeah, Fl Mild temperatures and sunny sky greeted racers from both the FSC and CC series for the fourth round of the Coconut Cup south Florida series presented by Floridabikecrashlaw.com, which was also a make up for the Florida State Championship series. For FSC racers it was a last chance to replace any lower or missed scores for both the XC races and the bonus points rounds. The trails were in great shape (thanks to the Amelia Trail Builders Club), with a few new dirt sculptures and

Speedfest at Alva

Florida State Championship series #7 / Coconut Cup series #3 –Caloosahatchee Trails – Alva, Fl When hurricane Ian hit the Ft Myers area the thought that we would be racing at the Alva trails by November 20th was simply wishful thinking and frankly secondary to our concern for all of the folks that were affected by the storm. We were thinking the worst but to our surprise we got the call that club (the Mud Cutters) and the county (Lee County) was going to have the trails ready for the race and they did just that and in the nick
