Crush’n it at Croom

Florida Endurance series #7 –Croom Crusher – Brooksville, Fl

Got pretty lucky overall with the weather as some much needed rain fell Friday night on a course that is notorious for sand but with the help of the Brooksville/Croom trail maintenance group a new layout this year helped immensely as not only was much of the sand avoided but the flow was better as well. The 27.3 mile course also took in a little more technical trail just to spice things up. Not saying it was easy as the temp’s were in the 90’s but the humidity was relatively low thankfully.

Crushing the marathon class overall was Matt Dockins who turned in two laps in 3:19:19 for an amazing 16.4 mph average. Andrea Lemieux landed the win in the women’s long distance race. Alberto Maracano took another sprint open class win in a time of 1:43:44 and Brook Foster claimed the women’s sprint win with a very respectable 13.3 mph average.

The overall series awards were presented to the class champions and top three awardees, claiming the men’s marathon overall was Gilberto Araujo and women’s marathon champ was Dianna Bridges. In the sprint classes it was Alberto Maracano with a near perfect score of 199 points out of 200 and Susan Van Bernum rose to top of the women’s sprint championship with 176 points after seven rounds and two bonus races.

Many thanks to all of the series sponsors and volunteers. Congratulations to all of the finishers, winners and champs, it was great season and already looking forward to next year!
