Florida Endurance series #7 – Croom trails – Brooksville, Fl
It is not often we hope for rain right before a race weekend but at this course rain is a blessing most of the time. Central Florida has been in a drought as of late and although we did get the needed wet stuff it was a bit close for comfort as the rain did fall but only stopped right before the 9am start. This year the course was trimmed down to a 14.5 mile loop to help with some of the sand sections and was amazingly fast with a handful of folks reaching the 16 mph range and the overall winner hitting a 16.8 mph average. The Croom Mafia trail crew had the trails trimmed and groomed to perfection, many thanks for all of their help and hard work!
Matt Dockins was the overall winner as noted covering the marathon distance of 58 miles in 3:26:48 and Annelly Oviedo had a hard fought battle Pauline Dockins and eventually rode away with the win. The top sprint racer on the day (2 laps = 29 miles) was Stephen Karras and fastest of the women sprinters was Sue Van Bernun.
The overall series awards were held onsite and along with all of the class champions the top male and female racers were Bob McCarty and Annelly Oviedo. Many thanks to all of the series sponsors, riders, supporters and volunteers for another great season!
