Florida State Championship series #6 / Coconut Cup series #2 – Dyer park Trails – West Palm Bch, Fl
In a whirlwind move the original location of the sixth round of the FSC was moved from Lakeland to WPB due to hurricane Ian and with quick work, hustle and good luck the move was made in record time and set up a chance to add another round to the Coconut Cup series (presented by Floridabikecrashlaw.com) as well at this very demanding South Florida trail system. We can’t thank club Force and Palm Beach County enough for pulling it off.
If you have never been to Dyer park, it is a South Florida climbers course, I know that doesn’t compute in most people’s minds but it certainly is one of the most physically challenging courses on the schedule. At 6.7 miles per lap it almost feels like half of it climbing and descending and is a hoot to ride.
Saturday was the FSC Short Track (which was also a make up for the CC series bonus points) and the competition was hot and heavy in the three waves that ran on the short and punchy course. Ryan Woodall took the top honors for the men (by less than a second), Simone Berger was the women’s winner and Alberto Espinoza claimed the cat 3 wave win.
Ryan Woodall also held off a strong challenge from Victor Alber in Sunday’s XC race to remain undefeated in both series, while Simone Berger logged another XC win for the weekend. Both Simone and Ryan currently have a firm hold on the Pemon Leaders jersey in the FSC and also lead the CC series.
Team Leroy’s Lynx can now boast an FSC team championship lead of 32 points after another good showing.
The Gear Bicycle sales E MTB series race was won by Kelly Jones in the women’s and Tim Zimmerman in the men’s with close competition in both (hey that is exactly what happened last week & why I left the wording the same).
Next event is at Alva, on 11-20-22 please if you plan to stay in the Ft Myers area overnight make your plans early as lodging is very limited due to the hurricane damage!
