Specialized Florida State Championship series #3 – Hanna park – Jacksonville, Fl
The end of Summer is now in sight as the temperatures and humidity took a turn downward this weekend and that along with a well timed mid week rain made for awesome conditions for round three of the series. The beachside 7.7 mile course features lot’s of twists and turns along with a healthy dose of roots which makes this course one of the tougher challenges on the circuit despite being relatively flat. The SORBA JAX club once again did an amazing job getting everything ready for the race and for working the course marshalling positions, many thanks!
The kids race started at 8:30am and their shorter but still challenging lap consisted of a one mile ride through the jungle with the 9-11 group doing three laps and most of the younger groups doing two or one lap, the overall turnout for the kids were up and the 6-8 class had 17 entries alone. The Yellow wave kicked off at 9:30am with the elilte men and unfortunately a saw a big pile up in at the entrance to the woods which made an even more challenging race for some. Victor Alber captured his first of the series and now sits in second place overall but Bob McCarty made up some big points and is now the new series points leader and jersey holder. Simone Berger rolled to her third win in a row and holds a solid lead in the women top class and therefore the women’s leaders jersey. In the team competition there was another lead change as the Speed Lab P/B Coffee team now holds a slim one point lead going into round four which is next weekend at Markham park in Sunrise.
