Florida State Championship series #1 + TT – Tom Brown park – Tallahassee, Fl
The season opener kicked off as a wet one with the skies letting loose just about an hour before the start of the individual time trial on Saturday and then just to make things a little more interesting it rained again right at the 3pm official start. The TT course was cut short due to the heavy rains making it about half of the normal lap. Sunday turned out to be a nice day (no rain) although a little humid and the course turned out to be in great shape despite all of the previous days rains. Many thanks to the City of Tallahassee maintenance crews and to the Tallahassee mountain bike association for all their hard work.
The 6.5 mile race course at Tom Brown is a favorite with the FSC racers and is as close to being a Georgia style trail as you can get and still be in Florida, it has rolling hills, challenging single track and red clay. During Saturdays TT the rider that had everyone chasing was Jack Mizzoni as he laid down a blistering 13:48:06 time on a very wet loop, the top female on the day was Gabriela Crespo with a comfortable 19 second gap over her next rival.
Sunday the course had time to dry overnight and it made a huge recovery treating the racers to great conditions all the way from the 8:30am kids race to the 11:30am white wave. Top riders were Jack Mizzoni making it a perfect sweep for the weekend while Ariel Edens won the XC race in the women’s expert and thereby claiming the Neutral Service Leaders jersey going into round two.
Team “The Beast Battalion 2026” fired the first salvo in the team championship standings by claiming lead coming out of round one and the Epic Bike $50 fast lap award went to Ryan Woodall in the men’s 19-39 expert class.
Next event is at Hanna park in Jacksonville on 9-20 (this Sunday)!
