Specialized Florida State Championship series #4  / Coconut Cup #1 – Markham park –Sunrise, Fl

When we arrived Friday for race set up it was raining all day which made us a little concerned about the weekend’s race but the rain stopped on Saturday and the sun came out which produced an awesome weekend to kick off the Coconut cup series and FSC #4. The Markham park trail building crew once again laid out a challenging course that ended up being 6.6 miles and asked for a wide variety of rider skills to master.

Another big turnout but two classes that got our attention was the 3-5 year old group that had 20 racers and the XC-3 19-39 class that had 48, wow we haven’t seen those numbers since the late 90’s. The races in both waves were once again super competitive  as the best talent in the state facing off and this round it was multi time state champion Bob McCarty and current points leader taking this first win of the series in the men’s elite overall. In the women’s top class Simone Berger once again won but she faced a stiff challenge from Marcella Toldi and Jennifer Moos, both Bob and Simone will carry the leader’s jersey to Alachua in two weeks. In the team championship team  “Speedlab p/b Coffee” extended their points lead to 3 points over former leaders “Alex’s Bicycle pro shop / McCarty Training”.
