Florida State Championship series #1 + TT + E MTB #1 – Tom Brown park – Tallahassee, Fl
It seemed like everyone was bracing for a wet start to the season but that was not the case as the opening round of the FSC dodged the nasty clouds and the trails were in great shape for the racers. Many thanks to TMBA (Tallahassee area Mountain Bike Association) for prepping the trails and for cheering on the racers during the event, it is always a treat to come up and race in Tally.
Saturday was the traditional series time trial bonus race, it was the full 6.5 mile XC course with one rider at a time hitting the trail and racing against the clock. After all was said and done Ryan Woodall came out on top and Simone Berger did the same in the women’s, both are returning state champs from 2021 so no big surprises there but it did confirm who has been doing their homework.
Sunday the kids race started off the activities at 8:30am followed by the advanced racers (the yellow wave) at 9:30am. Ryan Woodall once again took the win by around 40 seconds while Simone Berger had a much tighter finish with only around five seconds to spare. This of course made the calculations of who would wear the Pemon leaders jersey pretty easy as both Ryan and Simone would don the jerseys on the podium as top male and female riders of the series.
Sunday was also the first round of the Gear Bicycle sales E MTB series and returning champs Nick Mackie and Kelly Jones backed up their red plates with wins. The next E MTB event will be at the Vortex trails in Ocala on 10-23.
FSC #2 will be at Hanna park in Jacksonville on 9-18, hope to see everyone there!
