Georgia State Championship series #2 – Yonah trails – Cleveland, Ga

Fun, was the key word for new trail system located in the Northern Georgia. This would be the first ever race held on the property and the conditions could not have been better, a Friday night rain to insure the traction was just right, a mild and sunny weekend and lot’s of great racers to break it all in. The layout was set at a slightly long 7.8 miles and was filled with lot’s of ups and downs, a creek crossing, a fast flowing trail and then around the six mile mark the riders were hit with the technically challenging rock switch backs before a nice wide downhill slope to the finish. This trail is destined to become a new favorite with many.  Special thanks to the caretakers of trail system, the North East Georgia SORBA club for their efforts not only working the event but also having a big hand in making the event happen.

The racing was close and fast with local racer Shannon Himstedt crossing the line first in the men’s 19-39 cat 1 class and setting the fastest lap at 29:37 while in the women’s it was Hailey Nelson taking the top spot on the day.

Once again many thanks to all of the volunteers at the club and to the staff at the White County Yonah park as well as all of the sponsors, racers and families that make the series happen. Next round will be at Ft Yargo in Winder, Ga April 30th, see you there!
