Florida Endurance series #5 – Landbridge Trails – Ocala, Fl
The weather was playing games with us, Friday was supposed to be rainy all day but it was sunny and nice, Saturday the storms came and with all of the rain and wind there was real concern about the condition of the trails but after a lengthy full check of the 25 mile loop all was clear and the conditions would prove to be prime for Sunday’s race. Thanks as always to the OMBA club for their tireless work on the trail system.
An early start for this round of the FLE series at 8am with the long distance racers going first followed 15 minutes later by the sprint or 25 mile groups. A moto paced start for the first mile up and across the famous I-75 land bridge and the mass start of racers hit the first single track at full speed. Fastest lap of the day was set by Jack Mizzoni on way to his sprint open win but it was Bob McCarty and Amy Talbot taking home the big trophies in the ultra marathon (75 mile) male and female categories respectively. Congrats to all who jumped the shark in ’22!
