Florida Endurance series #6 – Hammer Head – Ocala, Fl
The weather turned near perfect on Sunday after a pretty hot Saturday pre ride day but the trail was on the dry side so some sand and dry leaves meant the racers had to stay on their toes during the race. The 25 mile loop starts at the landbridge trailhead and heads west taking on a variety of challenging terrain that then returns back to the landbridge for a fast run to the finish. This year a new category was added as the E MTB class one bikes took to the trail first at 8am followed by the marathon (50 mile) & ultra (75 mile) classes and then finally the sprint or one lap classes.
William Able took the men’s E MTB win and Stephanie Lamer won the women’s while finishing a strong 6th overall against the men. The sprint category fastest male was Alberto Maracano, fastest female was Brooke Foster. In the marathon classes it was Victor Alber (fastest analog bike finish at 15.7mph) taking the men’s win and Simone Berger claiming the women’s 50 mile class. The Ultra marathon classes were won by Matt Dockins and Amy Talbot (pictured). Congrats to all the winners and finishers!
The FLE leaders jerseys leaders are Dianna Bridges and Gilberto Araujo going into the final round at Croom on 5-11-24.
