Florida State Championship series #3 / Coconut Cup #1 + CC-Short Track – Dyer park – West Palm Beach, Fl – 10-7/8-23
The battle of Mt Dyer occurred over the weekend with racers from both the FSC and CC series clashing for the high ground in the two points series. The weeks leading up to the race saw lot’s of heavy rain and for many days the lower trails were literally flooded but thanks to the hard work of the FORCE bike club they did some major rerouting and pulled off a 6.2 mile course that of course incorporated the infamous Mt Dyer climbs. Dyer is always a very challenging race due to the high intensity climbs but Mother Nature was not done yet as rains Saturday night came and made many of the sections soft and energy draining for the riders. Many thanks to all of the Volunteers that made it happen.
The CC short track course on Saturday was in great shape however as nearly 80 racers hit the short but punchy sprint race that paid bonus points to the CC series, there were three waves and Ryan Woodall bested the Yellow wave, Mario Riveron topped the White wave and Carter Dembowski took the final Junior / Women’s wave, top female was Patricia Doring and she was also second overall in the 3rd wave.
Sunday the participants were faced with the reality of some very wet and slow sections due to the previous nights rain (one of which was on the very top of the circuit ironically) but they pressed on and at the end of the day it was Ryan Woodall taking the double header with a win in the men’s elite and Samantha Spiegelman won a hard fought battle to take the women’s top position. The overall men’s and women’s FSC Pemon Leaders Jersey presentation featured Amy Talbot representing the women’s top rider and a new men’s leader was shouldered by Angel Rodriguez in what is shaping up to be a very close points chase in the men’s elite class.
The Gear Bicycle sales E MTB FSC series round #3 and E MTB#1 CC series went off on time and perhaps saw the best conditions of the day as the racers completed two laps on the XC course and pushed the average speed to well past 2 mpg faster than their analog relatives. Tim Zimmerman claimed the top men’s spot with his first E win of the series and Patrica Doring claimed her second win in the women’s.
The team championship has team “Bike Parlor” in the lead by two points but the top five teams are only separated by 12 points which makes this year of the closest in recent memory.
FSC #4 will be at the Vortex trails in Ocala on October 22nd, see you there!
