Georgia State Championship series #7 – Unicoi State Park – Helen, Ga
Perfect is one way to describe the weather and conditions at the series final at Unicoi state park this past weekend. This former NORBA national course is notorious for tough climbing and for the wet stuff and well the climbs are still there but at least it was dry and nearly zero humidity, just an awesome way to finish off the GSC.
Did we mention this course is tough, 6.7 miles, a creek crossing, lot’s of steep climbs and one climb in particular called three sisters will absolutely drain you if you have not been training, this one always shakes up the field and this Sunday was no exception. Ezra Caudell took command of the top men’s class with a six minute win over 4 laps and Abby Hobbs also with a dominate win took the top spot in the women’s categories.
The GSC series banquet was held later that afternoon at the Unicoi lodge to a packed house where all of the awardees were honored for their accomplishments during the series, special awards were given to sportsmanship – Jeremy Brock / Most Improved Female – Amy Younkins / Most Improved Junior – Benjamin Fountain / Most Improved Male – Zach Berube. Congratulations to all and many thanks to all of the sponsors, volunteers and folks that made this year’s series a success!
