Florida State Championship series #3 + Coconut Cup #2 + EMTB – Markham park – Sunrise, Fl
It has been a very rainy season in South Florida but thankfully it stumbled to a stop just in time for the combined FSC / CC race at Markham park. The Markham park trail crew had set up a “wet course” just in case but as it turned out a small dry cool front rolled in and the conditions were pretty close to perfect.
Racing at Markham park is always competitive but when you add the top riders from both the state series and the South Florida series all in one place it gets even tougher. The youth trail at this venue is one of the longest in the series at 2.2 miles and features lot’s of great riding and a fast flow at 8:30am thirty five of the best young riders hit that course to start the days racing off.
At 9:30am the yellow wave or advanced wave launched off the start line facing 6.7 miles of fast yet technical trail and the battles had begun with fast laps in the mid twenty minute mark and speed of over 16mph. Ryan Woodall came down from Central Florida walked away with a close win in the men’s elite class and Jennifer Moos stepped in to the series in the women’s top class and claimed herself a win as well. The Neutral Services Leaders Jersey stayed on the shoulders of husband and wife team of Ryan and Darla Woodall as the men’s and women’s overall points leaders.
The Florida Commercial Appliance (Z-Boys) $50 fast lap went to Dick McDonald in the 60+ class. Team “Muddy Santos Shredders” continues to lead the series team standings and even added a few points to their lead which now stands at 10pts.
The electric revolution returned to the series for the first time since round one at Tallahassee and the E bike racers were in for a treat as the trails at Markham have proven to be one of the fun’est on the pedal assist machines. William Able took the win in the men’s and Stephanie Lamer was the women’s winner.
Next race is this weekend in Ocala at the famed Vortex trails!
