Tally FSC opener

Florida State Championship series #1 + TT – Tom Brown Trails – Tallahassee, Fl

The 32nd annual FSC got off to a roaring start with 166 entries in the Saturday time trial alone and everything looked great course-wise with great traction and overcast conditions but then it came (yes the rain) with only five minutes to go before the start the skies opened up and an instant-wet race. The decision was made to then shorten the TT course to the 3.5 Magnolia trail and the racers did their best to navigate the race course with of the course the early starting racers getting the benefit of the better conditions. Sunday was a similar situation as overnight the rains held up but then right in the middle of the yellow wave the wet stuff came down again even harder setting up another wet one which lead to cutting the white wave laps to just one. Fortunately the trail drains well and overall the conditions improved throughout the day.

Saturdays time trial was won by Jack Mizzoni with a time of 13:00:47 while Kelly Jones took the women’s top time with about 4 seconds to spare. Sunday (utilizing the full 6.7 mile course) multi time FSC champ Victor Alber put on a strong ride winning by nearly a minute and half over a talented field in the men’s elite while Yerany Morejon Gonzalez bested the women’s highest class by about 25 seconds. In the EMTB race it was Rogerio Filho and Stephanie Lamer claiming the wins.

After the weekend of races the Ways sponsored leaders Jersey was placed on the shoulders Kelly Jones and Nick Mackie going into round two in Jacksonville Beach. Taking the early lead in the team championship standings is “Pedal to the Medal” sponsored by LeRoy’s Bikeworks with a 5 point buffer.

Many thanks to all of the TMBA (Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association) volunteers and all of the fine sponsors of the series, with a special shout-out to Epic Bikes & Mudder Ducker for the primes.

Congrats to all of the athletes and on to round #2 in Jax!
