VELO RACING AT THE VORTEX

Florida Endurance series #5 – Vortex – Santos Vortex trails – Ocala, Fl

Ah springtime in Florida, which means mild temperatures, low humidity and an occational rain and that is exactly what happened at the fifth round of the FLE series. Fortunately the course was set up with rain in mind and we almost got away clean but somewhere during the second and third laps it came down and messed things up for a bit but by the end of race things shaped up nicely and the racers were handed great weather the rest of the day. The 7.8 mile course was set up in the same location as the 12 hours of Santos but it had a very different feel as most of the technical sections were removed and the lap was shortened by about a mile that meant that the sprint racers would do 4 laps and the marathon racers eight laps.

Bob McCarty claimed the open marathon win and Marcella Toldi won the women’s marathon while Branndon Guerrero sped off with the win in the sprint open class while Amy Talbot was the winner in the women’s sprint class.
