Florida State Championship series #3 / Coconut Cup #1 + CC Short Track – Dyer Park – WPB, Fl
Caught between to hurricanes, with Hurricane Helene just recently hitting Northern Florida and beyond and Hurricane Milton forming in the Gulf we did our best to squeeze in a South Florida mountain bike race at Dyer park over the weekend. With a scheduled Coconut Cup short track race on Saturday (which was relatively dry) and a Sunday XC race (predicted to be wet) it was going to be close with some of the far outer bands of the storm expected to start during the event. The racers and the FORCE club and our staff did everything we could to get ready but as it turned out the weather folks were right and the rain did pour down during the Sunday event several times, so much so that 1:30pm EMTB race had to be canceled. As everyone was packing up and trying their best to stay dry the attention soon turned to the approaching storm that was growing fast and heading for Central Florida later in the week.
Braxton Meloon took a close win in the CC short track and Simone Berger claimed the women’s fastest ST times. On Sunday with the rain pouring down Victor Alber claimed his third XC win in a row while Yerany Morejon Gonzalez won her second FSC XC of the series.
Bob McCarty added to his take home pay with the Mudder Ducker $50 fast lap prime in the men’s 50+ expert class.
The Ways sponsored leaders Jersey stayed with Victor Alber in the men’s class and a new jersey for the women’s class now in the hands of Juliana Moreno.
The team championship found a new team on top with “Speedlab, Ways, Cats and Friends” and with their successful weekend they are now sporting a 5 point lead.
Many thanks to all of the sponsors and FORCE club volunteers, next race is in Ocala at the famous Vortex trails!
