Florida Endurance series #6 – Croom Crusher – Brooksville, Fl
The inaugural Gone Riding race at Croom was a tough but fun one. In normal conditions the 28.8 mile course would have been a challenge but with the lack of rain recently the pain meter was turned up a few notches as some of the climbs were a bit sandier than normal which slowed the pace and amped up the effort needed to go fast.
But fast they did go as Matt Dockins took a hard earned win over last year’s champ Bob McCarty with a blistering pace of 16mph in the Marathon men’s (2 laps)! Diana Bridges won the women’s class long distance race and sprint winners were Andres Chaparro in the men’s and Pauline Dockins in the women’s 29 miler.
Super big thanks to the Swamp Club and all of the volunteers that helped make the event a success… James West- trail boss & all of the Brooksville Mafia trail crew who made sure the trails were safe and clean, plus Humberto Diaz- race winner, set up, clean up /Pauline Dockins- race winner, clean up / Matt Dockins- race winner, clean up / Justin Gore- race winner, clean up / John Elhenbach- Trail steward, set up, clean up / Tom Quigley- Trail steward, set up. Swamp is a club that is very involved in trail stewardship in Florida and also in supporting the success of community events.
So the big showdown is set for the final FLE race in Lakeland on 6-11 at Loyce Harpe park, see you there!
