Woodall & Berger claim FSC titles

Specialized Florida State Championship series #8 + Coconut Cup MU + E MTB #5 – Santos Trails – Ocala, Fl What a fun, fulfilling and competitive season this was, the weather was awesome (well at least pretty close to awesome) for most of the races and the attendance and enthusiasm was a welcome sight after being two years into the pandemic. The Santos trails are always popular and since we were not expecting rain (more on that later) we set up the course on the technical and long side (hey this was the final race after all) with sections like […]

Coconut Cup Amelia

Coconut Cup #3 – Amelia Earhart Park – Hialeah, Fl Lot’s going on this past weekend starting with the Coconut Cup time trial on Saturday and then the XC race on Sunday, both events were also make up races for the FSC which meant there were numerous North Florida riders (“North” meaning North of West Palm Beach) there to gather as many points as possible before the final FSC showdown in Ocala. The weather was absolutely awesome with temps in the low eighties and lot’s of sunshine. If you have never ridden this course you are missing out as it

FSC / CC double header at Alva

Specialized Florida State Championship series #7 + Coconut Cup #2 + E MTB #4 – Caloosahatchee Trails – Alva, Fl Another fantastic weather event for the double header at Alva, there was concern in the air leading up the race as some rain was threatening to spoil the fun but it held off and the course conditions were perfect. This trail is a unique one for the circuit as it encompasses a long 10.5 mile loop and a shorter 4 mile loop option so many of classes did long and short options to get the desired distance. It also is

hailes bells at FSC #6

Specialized Florida State Championship series #6 + ST + E MTB #3 – Haile Trails – Newberry, Fl It is almost November and it is still quite warm in North Central Florida as the sixth round of the series rolled into the popular Hailes trails venue. This property is privately owned and only open a few times a year and many riders look forward to not just racing but riding the course when they get the opportunity. It is located on an old limestone rock quarry and features lot’s of short steep climbs and technical sections along with some awesome

FSC showdown at san felasco

Specialized Florida State Championship series #5 – San Felasco Trails – Alachua, Fl It took till the middle of October but the “fall” series or FSC finally got some slightly fall like weather, a cold front (if you want to call it that) moved in Saturday night and lowered the temperatures from the 90’s to the low 80’s and humidity was almost nonexistent, plus Mother Nature dropped just enough water on the course to make it perfect. The Friends of San Felasco trail crew did a super job getting everything ready and also marshaling the race as nearly 250 racers

FSC meets CC at markham

Specialized Florida State Championship series #4  / Coconut Cup #1 – Markham park –Sunrise, Fl When we arrived Friday for race set up it was raining all day which made us a little concerned about the weekend’s race but the rain stopped on Saturday and the sun came out which produced an awesome weekend to kick off the Coconut cup series and FSC #4. The Markham park trail building crew once again laid out a challenging course that ended up being 6.6 miles and asked for a wide variety of rider skills to master. Another big turnout but two classes

FSC hits the beach in Jax

Specialized Florida State Championship series #3  – Hanna park – Jacksonville, Fl The end of Summer is now in sight as the temperatures and humidity took a turn downward this weekend and that along with a well timed mid week rain made for awesome conditions for round three of the series. The beachside 7.7 mile course features lot’s of twists and turns along with a healthy dose of roots which makes this course one of the tougher challenges on the circuit despite being relatively flat. The SORBA JAX club once again did an amazing job getting everything ready for the

FSC keeps rolling in lakeland

Specialized Florida State Championship series #2  – Loyce Harpe park – Lakeland, Fl Besides the heat the conditions were amazing for the second round of the series, the Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Association had prepped the course to perfection and the rains were timed just right to maximize traction and the posting of some super fast lap times.  The course was set right at 7 miles per lap and a featured both fast dirt roads and techie tight sections with trail names like “sneaky snake” and “the beast” you can get an idea and then of course there are the

FSC kick off in Tally

Specialized Florida State Championship series #1 + TT + E MTB. The first round of the 2021 FSC kicked off back in it’s traditional location at Tom Brown park in Tallahassee after missing a year due to covid restrictions and it came a few weeks earlier than normal due to college football schedules that block out lodging opportunities, so yes we started the series in August (not normal) and yes it was hot but not unbearable, oh then there was a hurricane in the region (more on that later). The Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association had the course in super shape
