FSC meets CC at markham

Specialized Florida State Championship series #4  / Coconut Cup #1 – Markham park –Sunrise, Fl When we arrived Friday for race set up it was raining all day which made us a little concerned about the weekend’s race but the rain stopped on Saturday and the sun came out which produced an awesome weekend to kick off the Coconut cup series and FSC #4. The Markham park trail building crew once again laid out a challenging course that ended up being 6.6 miles and asked for a wide variety of rider skills to master. Another big turnout but two classes […]

FSC hits the beach in Jax

Specialized Florida State Championship series #3  – Hanna park – Jacksonville, Fl The end of Summer is now in sight as the temperatures and humidity took a turn downward this weekend and that along with a well timed mid week rain made for awesome conditions for round three of the series. The beachside 7.7 mile course features lot’s of twists and turns along with a healthy dose of roots which makes this course one of the tougher challenges on the circuit despite being relatively flat. The SORBA JAX club once again did an amazing job getting everything ready for the

Specialized Florida State Championship series #2  – Loyce Harpe park – Lakeland, Fl Besides the heat the conditions were amazing for the second round of the series, the Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Association had prepped the course to perfection and the rains were timed just right to maximize traction and the posting of some super fast lap times.  The course was set right at 7 miles per lap and a featured both fast dirt roads and techie tight sections with trail names like “sneaky snake” and “the beast” you can get an idea and then of course there are the

FSC kick off in Tally

Specialized Florida State Championship series #1 + TT + E MTB. The first round of the 2021 FSC kicked off back in it’s traditional location at Tom Brown park in Tallahassee after missing a year due to covid restrictions and it came a few weeks earlier than normal due to college football schedules that block out lodging opportunities, so yes we started the series in August (not normal) and yes it was hot but not unbearable, oh then there was a hurricane in the region (more on that later). The Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association had the course in super shape

Highway to Helen, GSC Final

Georgia State Championship series (GSC) #6 It has been a tradition that the last round of the GSC series happens in Helen, Ga and this year was no different, it also seems to be a tradition for the weekend’s event to have to deal with rain at one time or another, this year it came down right after the start of the first wave making an already challenging course even tougher. This historic trail that was used in the 1990’s to host national profession races is considered a climbers course and although the route that was used was only 6.5

FLE SERIES WRAP UP AT SANTOS

FLORIDA ENDURANCE SERIES #7 – SANTOS CLASSIC – GREENWAY TRAILS – OCALA, FL The drought was broken this week in Central Florida and with the coming rainy season comes the heat and humidity and there was plenty of it on hand for final round of the FLE series. The trail was in great shape for the 9am start as the racers filed out to course to face either four laps (sprint classes) or eight laps (marathon classes) of an 8 mile loop which included the infamous “sink hole” trail right off the bat. This 1.5 mile section is filled with

BEATA WRONSKA TAKES A WIN AT THE BUMP

Georgia State Championship  Make up + Bump N Grind – Oak Mountain State park – Pelham, Al A cold front moved in on Memorial weekend in Alabama bringing the temps down to the fifties but then warming up nicely during the day, not what most were expecting but a welcome change. A nice turnout also for this annual event which had kids races, downhill and even unicycle races on Saturday. Sunday’s action was hot and heavy with the cool temps and maximum traction provided by the Friday rain. In the men’s top class it was Jerry Dufour with the win and in

ASSALT ON ACWORTH

Georgia State Championship  #5 + GSC Short Track – Allatoona Creek park – Acworth, Ga The 5th round of the GSC took place in Acworth just North of Atlanta and featured not only a challenging XC course but an equally challenging short track bonus race on Saturday. The weather was what I would call pre-summer, temps around 90 but low humdity and dry, pretty nice conditions for mtb racing in Georgia. Saturdays short track featured a nice layout of about 50% single track and 50% open trail and say some super close racing that went down to the wire. It was Douglas

JOSE ROJAS ON WAY TO A PODIUM AT LAKE MARY

Florida Endurance series #6 – Markham Woods Masher – Markham Woods Trails – Lake Mary, Fl A nice cool front moved in just in time to give the inagrual race at this park some needed rain and low humidity. The 10 mile course was uniquely designed for the event by the SORBA Orlando club and featured a mix of single track and some double track forest roads. The club did an outstading job with the event, thanks to the many that helped out! Bob McCarty took his 4th win in the marathon class while Kelly Lalima claimed her second win. In the Sprint class it was Keith
