Georgia State Championship series #3 – Brown’s Mill Battlefield park – Newnan, Ga Dodged another close one on the weather as rains came on Friday but stopped in time for the trails to dry out for the weekends race and produced a near perfect trail for the racers and mild temperatures and sunshine to boot! The 6.25 mile course layout was modified slightly from last years race mainly due to the new start / finish location which produced some blazing fast times. The new layout lent itself to some close racing with about a quarter mile run up to the

Georgia State Championship series #2 – GIHP Trails – Conyers, Ga It was shaping up to be a nice weekend weather wise, the famous Olympic mountain bike course had avoided the rains for the most part on Friday and Saturday but on Sunday just as the yellow wave was one lap into the trail the rain would not be denied. Although it didn’t rain that hard or long it did set the stage for the rest of the day which meant the racers would have to deal with a slick course. The seven mile loop has a bit of a

Florida Endurance series #7 – Croom trails – Brooksville, Fl It is not often we hope for rain right before a race weekend but at this course rain is a blessing most of the time. Central Florida has been in a drought as of late and although we did get the needed wet stuff it was a bit close for comfort as the rain did fall but only stopped right before the 9am start. This year the course was trimmed down to a 14.5 mile loop to help with some of the sand sections and was amazingly fast with a

Georgia State Championship series #1 + TT#1 – Yonah Trails – Cleveland, Ga Picturesque race weekend in the mountains, rains that had been threatening the area calmed down and the sun came out just in time for amazing conditions on the fun, fast and flowing trail system. The North East Georgia SORBA team had the course in great shape and also marshaled the course, many thanks for the hard work! Saturday had a rain the night before and by the 3pm start time the course was near perfect as Jeremy Brock laid down the fastest lap with a 28:33 time

Florida Endurance series #6 – San Felasco trails – Alachua, Fl We have been getting lucky with the weather lately and this race was no exception, although the original date had to be postponed due to rain last month. The temp’s were in the low 80’s and the course was nice and fast, ok maybe a little dry but made for fast laps and blurry trees. The great folks that steward the trails (The Friends of San Felasco) had every bit of the trail trimmed back and ready and also marshaled the event, many thanks! Jason Marcotte rose to the

Florida Gravel Grinder series #5 – Jennings Forest Grind – Middleburg, Fl Could not have ordered a more perfect day to race bicycles, especially in Jennings Forest, there was much needed rain on Friday that packed down the freshly graded limestone that covered what was a sand section last year making for a smoking fast surface and an amazingly fun ride on a gravel bike. Saturday the second individual time trial of the series was held featuring one full lap of the 18.7 mile course. Top male rider in the TT was Trent Maddox while Phoebe Maisto logged the women’s

Coconut Cup series #7 – Quiet Waters Park – Deerfield Beach, Fl Another great weather day in South Florida, low humidity, nice breeze and lot’s of sunshine. The Quiet Waters trail crew have been working hard on getting the trails is tip top shape and adding new features and it paid off with a fast and fun 7.3 mile roller coaster of a ride. Taking the overall in the men’s elite class was Allison Anjos and the winner of the women’s class was Patricia Doring who also took the series title. The overall men’s champion in this year’s Coconut Cup

Florida Gravel Grinder series #4 – Chassahowitzka Grind – Brooksville, Fl There was no dust on this day at the tranquil park named Chassahowitzka just North of Weeki Wachee springs. On Saturdays pre ride the concern was just that “dust” on the well maintained but dry limestone roads but Sunday Mother Nature took care of that issue. Overall the traction remained good but the wet roads coated the racers in nice thin layer of whitish mud that resembled vanilla frosting. Racing was very competitive despite the conditions as one would expect with a hefty $1200 purse up for grabs thanks

Florida Endurance series #5 – Hammer Head – Landbridge Trailhead – Ocala, Fl Was a wee bit chilly for the start of the  17th annual Hammer Head with temperatures in the 40’s but warming up nicely into the upper 70’s by midday. The trail was 26 miles this year (a little longer than normal) which included a newly built OMBA (Ocala mountain bike association) trail (Infinity) that added even more nice flow to the route, many thanks to the club for the hard work!   Now to the racing action, in the sprint twenty six mile open class it was
