Florida Endurance series #2 12 hours of Santos – Vortex Trails – Ocala, Fl
This event is always a highlight of season, whether for the endurance or XC as about 350 racers came together for the annual 12 hour. This year we made it a special tribute to Moises Inoa our sports famed photographer who passed away just a few weeks ago by naming it the 12 Hours of Santos / Osito.
The weather was amazing this year with just the right amount of rain on Friday to tighten up the trail grip and mild temp’s on Saturday to help keep the racers running cool. The OMBA crew had the trails in great shape as always and the 9.5 mile layout was a challenge as well, with a mix of single track, techie sections and good race viewing.
Big winners on the day were Bob McCarty (12 hour solo open) and Grace Erwin (12 hours solo female). In the 6 hour classes it was Carlos Pacheco and Amy Talbot taking the top boxes while in the 3 hour it was Mark Delibertis and Crystal Pena claiming the honors. Top teams were “Dock Bot” in the two person, “Spectrum Innovations” in the Co-Ed class, “Tres Honzos” in the under 150 year group and “Field’s / Pro Bike Run / Floyd’s of Leadville” in the over 150 division.
Many thanks to all who came and to the OMBA club. Thanks also to Ron Henion for the awesome course layout. Next FLE race is March 18th & 19th in Alachua.
