Another fantastic weather event for the double header at Alva, there was concern in the air leading up the race as some rain was threatening to spoil the fun but it held off and the course conditions were perfect. This trail is a unique one for the circuit as it encompasses a long 10.5 mile loop and a shorter 4 mile loop option so many of classes did long and short options to get the desired distance. It also is a bit of a tail of two trails as the first and last parts are flat and fast and the middle is technical and features lot’s of short climbs. Many thanks to the Florida Mud Cutters club for getting everthing in great shape for the race.
Sunday’s race action kicked off with the kids races at 8:30am on a super fun bmx style loop for the racers and then the adults hit the big loop at 9:30am with the elite men starting first, they had the longest race of the day at 25 miles and in the end it was Bob McCarty taking the win and regaining the leaders jersey while in the women’s expert it was Erica Stehouwer winning the day and Maya Tomazoni gathering her first leaders jersey of the series. Alex’s Bike Pro Shop / McCarty racing also regained the team championship lead by 3 points, however the make up and drops points come into play after the next race in Hialeah so things could change going into the final.
In the E MTB race series Nick Mackie and Kelly Lalima continued their winning ways and it looks like a close points race for the 50+ class going into the final at Santos with only 4 points separating the top three.
