Florida Gravel Grinder series #2 + FLE make up – 3 Forks Recreation area – Palm Bay, Fl
One word can sum up this race… WIND! This levee course is known for great gravel riding, it has some of the best road surfaces for gravel in the state and has lots of straight sections that lend itself to good group riding and racing but “o-the-wind”. A cold front blew in overnight and with sustained head and cross winds in the 20-30 mph range and gusts even higher, plus the lack of trees had the riders facing literally no breaks for the duration of the race. Our hats are off to everyone that finished, that was a tough one!
The 29.6 mile out and back course had the sprint classes doing one circuit while the marathon classes did it twice and for the second FGG race in a row now Owen Shott took the overall men’s spot while Valarie Rosso (last year’s champ) took a commanding win in the marathon open women class.
Next FGG race will be in Eustis, Fl on 2-26, see you there!
