Florida Endurance series #5 – Hammer Head – Landbridge Trailhead – Ocala, Fl
Springtime in Central Florida can mean any kind of weather, we were threatened with wet weather during the week but it never happened, then we started the race day with overcast mild temperatures and it evolved into a pretty warm sunny day by the end, did I mention it was a wee bit sandy, yes it was. Many thanks as always to the Ocala Mountain Bike Association (OMBA) for all of their hard work in building and maintaining the trail system.
The 25 mile loop was configured a little differently this year with a clockwise rotation and basically it started on the South trails and returned on the North trails and although the trails and the distance was the same we expected the fast lap times to be in the 1:40 range mainly due to the dry weather but instead we had several laps that were in the 1:37’s making for a 15.5 mph average, wow that is fast!
Speaking of fast, Matt Foxenberger took the Sprint open class win and Carolyn Maddox claimed the women’s 25 miler. In the 50 mile (marathon) classes it was Victor Alber and Patricia Doring topping their fields while in the 75 mile ultra marathon classes it was Seth Zaluski and Kristy Boyer marching home as the victors.
The Pemon Cycling Wear leader’s jerseys will stay on the shoulders of Christopher Yake and Patricia Doring going into the next round at Croom. Thanks to all of the sponsors especially Santos Bike shop for their continued support of the “484 bat cave” sag stop and congrats to all!
