Florida Endurance series #1 + TT#1 – Markham Woods Park – Lake Mary, Fl
What a contrast to last years ice box race where the temps were in the 20’s, this year was shall we say a perfect day to be outside and ride ones bike. The SORBA Orlando club was again on top of things and they had a nice layout that consisted of a steady mix of twisty single track and some double track thrown in to allow for passing plus about 11 to 12 inches of elevation changes just to keep things interesting (ok that wasn’t fair, there was more like 6 feet of elevationJ), but all in all it was a great race coure. Retro City Cycles pumped out the prizes to the podium as well many thanks to all!
Saturday saw 58 racers hit the shorter 7.8 mile TT loop one by one and it was Bob McCarty that rose to the top by just a few seconds while Kelly Jones broke into the top 20 overall and claimed the women’s win. Sunday the longer 10.8 mile loop was all set for three laps for the Sprint racers and a whopping 6 six laps for the Marathon classes. Braxton Meloon and Kelly Jones were the Sprint class top male and female racers while the longer Marathon winners were Bob McCarty and Annelly Oviedo. Mark Delibertis saved his best till last and took home the Fields Auto Group fast lap award with a 40:45.
Combining the two events for the overall series standings finds Bob McCarty with the Pemon Cycling Wear men’s leaders jersey and Annelly Oviedo wearing the women’s, congrats to all and the next FLE is the 12 Hours of Santos 2-18-23, see you there!
