GSC in the Yonah Zona

Georgia State Championship series #2 – Yonah trails – Cleveland, Ga Fun, was the key word for new trail system located in the Northern Georgia. This would be the first ever race held on the property and the conditions could not have been better, a Friday night rain to insure the traction was just right, a mild and sunny weekend and lot’s of great racers to break it all in. The layout was set at a slightly long 7.8 miles and was filled with lot’s of ups and downs, a creek crossing, a fast flowing trail and then around the […]

Hammer time in Ocala

Florida Endurance series #5 – Hammer Head – Landbridge Trailhead – Ocala, Fl Springtime in Central Florida can mean any kind of weather, we were threatened with wet weather during the week but it never happened, then we started the race day with overcast mild temperatures and it evolved into a pretty warm sunny day by the end, did I mention it was a wee bit sandy, yes it was. Many thanks as always to the Ocala Mountain Bike Association (OMBA) for all of their hard work in building and maintaining the trail system. The 25 mile loop was configured

Hot time in Hialeah

Florida Endurance series #4 – Hialeah Hustle – Amelia Earhart Trails – Hialeah, Fl A nice breeze, sunshine and warm weather, sounds like a vacation right that is unless you were hammering out fast hard laps at Amelia. The Amelia Trail Builders club had a punchy 6.1 miles of course set up for the race with the sprint classes scheduled for 5 laps and the marathon’s taking on 10 laps. Fast lap on the day was set by Bob McCarty at 23:09. Many thanks to the club for all of their hard work! Winning the overall marathon classes were Patricia

Not so Quiet Waters

Coconut Cup #8 –Quiet Waters Park – Deerfield Beach, Fl A fine way to wrap up the 22-23 Coconut Cup series, the weather was awesome the trail was challenging and the racing was close. The Quiet Waters trail has been through a lot, including a hurricane that leveled all or most of the trees, and then a pipeline construction project that ripped up the newly rebuilt trail system and now it is under threat again with a highway project but each time it seems to come back.  I cannot thank the Quiet Waters Trail Builders enough for their efforts, they

Rooting around at Oleta

Coconut Cup #7– Oleta River State Park – North Miami, Fl Awesome spring day in South Florida as round number seven held court in Oleta River park for the second to last race in the series. The 7 mile Oleta course is uniquely challenging with all of it’s roots, rocks and tight turns and was a test of a racers skill set for sure. The Oleta Trail Blazers club helped out immensely with prepping the trail and working the marshaling duties, many thanks! Race action saw current state Champion Victor Alber claim the win in the men’s elite class while

Haul’n in the Hammock

Florida Endurance series #3 + TT#2 – San Felasco Trails –Alachua, Fl A wee bit chilly but great race conditions for the third round of the series at San Felasco trails, a cold front blew in on Friday night but thankfully it only rained the perfect amount and left the Time Trial racers with a fast tacky 10.5 mile course. Saturday’s top TT racers were Gilberto Araujo and Adriana Leon. Sunday the sun came out but brisk temperatures kept the rider cooled down for the three sprint laps of 10.5 miles each and the marathon six lap affair. Top sprint

GSC kickoff in Jackson

Georgia State Championship series #1 + TT#1 – Dauset trails – Jackson, Ga It is always a little risky scheduling a bike race in Georgia in early March, you never really know what the weather is going to do till it happens. Well we got lucky this weekend as forecasted storms on Friday missed the area and very mild temperatures dominated the weekend which was a perfect recipe for a mountain bike race at the popular Dauset trails. A 7.5 mile loop was laid out that had a typical single track feel for the first half then became fast and

Seminole Spinfest

Florida Gravel Grinder series #3 – Seminole Forest – Eustis, Fl Great turnout for the second to last round of the FGG series at Seminole Forest just North of Orlando. Weather was a taste of summer with temp’s in the upper 80’s and while last years race was wet this one was dry and bit dusty for those stuck in the back of the pack. The 16.8 mile loop which features a variety of views and surfaces was traveled twice by the sprint classes and four times by the marathon groups and for the third race in a row Owen
