Gravel on the plate at 3 forks

Florida Gravel Grinder series #3 – 3 Forks – Palm Bay, Fl First day of May and we could not have asked for better race conditions for the third round of the FGG, temps in the 80’s, course was smooth, fast and very little wind (at a location that is notorious for wind). A different layout this year saw the racers heading south for 15 miles, turning around and then going back north for a total of 30 miles each leg. The sprint distance racers completed one leg and the marathon distance was of course 2 legs of same. Speaking […]

Going with the flow at Yargo

Georgia State Championship series #3 – Ft Yargo State Park – Winder, Ga Amazing weather and beautiful scenery sums up round three at Ft Yargo. The course was a little longer this year at 12 miles and featured a few more climbing sections but as always the trails keep you grinning the whole way. The “monster mile” section was included this year again and although most of the section is downhill somehow it doesn’t feel that way as it has lots of challenging ups with some techie sections sprinkled in and when you do complete it you would swear it

Cool running in conyers

Georgia State Championship series #2 – Georgia International Horse Park – Conyers, Ga It felt like two different days but it wasn’t, a cold 30 degrees and frost to start the day and then a beautiful sunny 70 degrees by mid afternoon and in between was perfect mtb racing conditions for both the trail and the racers. The 7 mile course which was the site of the first ever mountain bike competition in the Olympics in 1996 is always a special challenge with the numerous ups and downs and ripping fast single track. Tallon Flynn of North Carolina once again

Hammer head attack in ocala

Florida Endurance series #5 – Landbridge Trails – Ocala, Fl The weather was playing games with us, Friday was supposed to be rainy all day but it was sunny and nice, Saturday the storms came and with all of the rain and wind there was real concern about the condition of the trails but after a lengthy full check of the 25 mile loop all was clear and the conditions would prove to be prime for Sunday’s race. Thanks as always to the OMBA club for their tireless work on the trail system. An early start for this round of

CC Wraps up in Oleta

Coconut Cup #7 – Oleta River State Park – N. Miami, Fl Another perfect day in South Florida with temperatures in the high seventies and lot’s of sunshine for the final round of the 21-22 Coconut Cup season. This course provides some unique challenges as there may be little to no elevation but numerous turns, roots and rocks keep the racers on their toes. The 7 mile loop also has one of the slower lap times due to all of the constant action on the trail. Many thanks to all of the volunteers from the “Friends of Oleta” for helping

GSC kicks off at hard labor

Georgia State Championship series #1 + TT – Hard Labor Creek State park – Social Circle, Ga Some great racing weather to start of the new season even with the heavy rains that fell Friday the course shaped up nicely and the new creek crossing was much improved thanks to the volunteers (the Friends of Hard Labor Creek). The turnout was considerably up this year with lots of new faces in the junior ranks especially and the 7 mile course was challenging as always and has one of the best runs up to the finish on the circuit with a

FLE alachua chiller

Florida Endurance series #4 – San Felasco Trails – Alachua, Fl Timing is everything right? Overall we can’t complain after a week of great temperatures in Central Florida a cold front blew in and boy did it change things, first we dodged a bullet in that the storm damage was light in the Gainesville area as opposed to some locations to the South but the park did have to remove 4 trees on the course before the start of the TT. Then the temperature dropped almost a 40 degrees overnight and the endurance racers were faced with a brisk thirty

Green Swamp Grinder

Florida Gravel Grinder series #2 – Green Swamp West – Dade City, Fl With temperatures in the upper 80’s and no humidity plus no rain for weeks the second round of the series felt like more like a bike race in Arizona than Florida but it was all good for the racers once they got moving. For the first time in the young series history a time trial was held as a bonus points race and this venue proved to be a great place to hold it as the first leg of the course has a 9.4 mile out and

Coconut Cup Sunrise

Coconut Cup #6 – Markham Park – Sunrise, Fl Continuing a string of good weather events for the CC series the sixth round was classic Markham park style racing, fast and techie. The Markham park trail builder club had the trails in super shape and along with their marshaling of the race once again proved to be a big plus for this race.  The loop was set up for 6.4 miles while the kids course was a long (by kids course standards) 2.4 miles. Big winners on the day were Rafael Segura in the men’s elite and Simone Berger in
