GSC kicks off at hard labor

Georgia State Championship series #1 + TT – Hard Labor Creek State park – Social Circle, Ga Some great racing weather to start of the new season even with the heavy rains that fell Friday the course shaped up nicely and the new creek crossing was much improved thanks to the volunteers (the Friends of Hard Labor Creek). The turnout was considerably up this year with lots of new faces in the junior ranks especially and the 7 mile course was challenging as always and has one of the best runs up to the finish on the circuit with a […]

FLE alachua chiller

Florida Endurance series #4 – San Felasco Trails – Alachua, Fl Timing is everything right? Overall we can’t complain after a week of great temperatures in Central Florida a cold front blew in and boy did it change things, first we dodged a bullet in that the storm damage was light in the Gainesville area as opposed to some locations to the South but the park did have to remove 4 trees on the course before the start of the TT. Then the temperature dropped almost a 40 degrees overnight and the endurance racers were faced with a brisk thirty

Green Swamp Grinder

Florida Gravel Grinder series #2 – Green Swamp West – Dade City, Fl With temperatures in the upper 80’s and no humidity plus no rain for weeks the second round of the series felt like more like a bike race in Arizona than Florida but it was all good for the racers once they got moving. For the first time in the young series history a time trial was held as a bonus points race and this venue proved to be a great place to hold it as the first leg of the course has a 9.4 mile out and

Coconut Cup Sunrise

Coconut Cup #6 – Markham Park – Sunrise, Fl Continuing a string of good weather events for the CC series the sixth round was classic Markham park style racing, fast and techie. The Markham park trail builder club had the trails in super shape and along with their marshaling of the race once again proved to be a big plus for this race.  The loop was set up for 6.4 miles while the kids course was a long (by kids course standards) 2.4 miles. Big winners on the day were Rafael Segura in the men’s elite and Simone Berger in

12 Hrs of santos is back

Florida Endurance series #3 / 12 Hours of Santos- Vortex Trails – Ocala, Fl A perfect weekend for racing bicycles at the Santos trails in February, after some cold on and off days recently it was good to bask in the mild temps that engulfed the event. The race helps to benefit the OMBA club (Ocala Mountain Bike Association) that stewards the trails. The team participation was notably down this year most likely due to the uncertainties surrounding Covid but overall it was a good turnout and the competition level was high. An E bike race was held on Friday

Seminole grind in the books

Florida Gravel Grinder series #1 – Seminole Forest – Eustis, Fl With rain in the forecast for most of the day, the conditions actually turned out pretty nice for the first round of the series, the rain stopped about an hour before the start and only rained again after the event was over and nice temperatures to boot but it did leave the riders looking a dirty after the first lap. Many thanks to SORBA Orlando for helping with the parking and to Jorge Feliciano for designing the course. Speaking of the course, it was 16.8 miles per loop which

chilly start for markham woods masher

Florida Endurance series #2 – Markham Woods Park – Lake Mary, Fl Coldest day in 4 years was the local news headline and yes it was cold the morning of the race (27 degrees) but the sun was shining and zero wind so it warmed up nicely to the mid fifties in the afternoon which kept the racers shedding more and more gear as the race went on. The course was in great shape thanks to some mid week rain and the work of the SORBA Orlando crew and they had a very creative 10 mile course laid out that

Coconut Cup Resumes at Virginia Key

Coconut Cup #4 – Virginia Key Park – Miami, Fl The series took it’s annual holiday break and came back to Virginia Key trails to face a tough weather forecast for the day as a cold front carrying rain and healthy winds were due sometime during the afternoon. The weather folks got it right this time, almost down to the minute and fortunately there was just enough time to get 99 % of the races done with a dry course. The Virginia Key MTB club once again had the trails in super shape and had laid out a challenging 6.9
